1. Abid Naseer ‘led Manchester terror cell’, says US trial

A Pakistani man extradited from the UK was part of a broad al-Qaeda conspiracy to attack Manchester and New York, a US prosecutor has said.

Celia Cohen told a New York court that Abid Naseer, 28, led a terror cell in Manchester, England. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and has denied being involved in bomb plots.

Mr Naseer, who could face life imprisonment if found guilty, will represent himself in court.

‘A conscientious objection to religion’

WASHINGTON – A grand jury has indicted a North Carolina man on charges of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of three Muslim students, including a husband and wife, in the college town of Chapel Hill, police said Tuesday.

Craig Hicks, a 46-year-old espousing anti-religious views, was indicted for the murder last week of Chapel Hill residents Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, and his wife Yusor Mohammad, 21, as well as her sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, of Raleigh.

House search MossleyPolice said the searches were expected to last some time

A 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl have been arrested by counter-terrorism police in Greater Manchester.

The North West Counter Terrorism Unit said the pair were arrested on Monday in the Mossley area of Tameside.

Two addresses in the Hanover Street and Spring Mill Drive areas are being searched by police.

The BBC understands the arrested teenagers do not have any connection with Islamist extremism or have any international connections.

Thank you UK Pete, M., Richard, Draculea and many more. There is a great deal more material to do today of interest, and some specific to Canada, which seems to be showing a growing willingness, both in English Canada and Quebec, to be blunt about the nature of the threat and its doctrine.

Did you see what they did there? How they managed to slip in that he hated all religions so as to make the constantly-rushed-for-time average person conclude that Hicks killed the Muslims because he hated Islam, even though he was a lefty who never said anything about hating Islam? It’s a shame that there isn’t some governing body that can charge “journalists” with dishonest practices and take away their press cards when they lie.

    • When you have that governing body you have a state controlled media that would be as bad or worse then what we now have.

  2. Hamas’ Relations w Iran & Saudi Arabia

Some recent Middle Eastern developments are affecting Hamas’ relations with Iran with Saudi Arabia, while creating possibilities of forging alliances and renewing Hamas’ old coalitions in the region.

These developments are linked to the situation on the Golan Heights and the counterattack by Hizbullah and Syria, which is aimed at forming an additional front against Israel; to the death of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz; and to the Shiite (Houthi) rebels’ takeover of Yemen, which – with Yemen regarded as Saudi Arabia’s backyard – signifies Iran’s growing influence in the region.

    • This new Saudi king may be looking to reconcile with the MB. Salmon may try to use his leverage on Sisi to relax pressure on the MB in Egypt. The objective would be to oppose Iran with a united Sunni front.

Sisi would be a fool to go along with this strategy. Goes to show Israel just how far they can trust oily Gulf camel-drivers.

      • You are making a very believable analysis.

No one including other greasy camel drivers can trust greasy camel drives.

        • If this king wants to shake things up, he’ll cause an earthquake.
maybe not such a bad idea

If he’s looking for rapprochement with the MB, he’ll lose for sure. If he thinks they’re the only ones strong enough to confront Iran, he’s badly misguided.

As for Qatar, hire a hit man. Don’t go for subtle.

        • Right now the MB or Israel are his best bet, once Obama is out of office he can try the US again.

Who is he going to get? The US is too busy and Obama probably wouldn’t take the job.

        • The king best sit tight for a bit. Wait for the nuclear Iran agreement goes through. And the Israeli elections. Keep the oil pressure on Iran and Russia.

Then get together with Sisi, King Abdullah, and Bibi. Quietly. Brainstorm.

        • This article sees potential in the KSA, that they may become part of the solution for a problem they helped create.

“By ending all funding of groups relating to terrorist activities, controlling the use of mosques and madrassas used for terrorist purposes, limiting the training of fundamentalist imams, and declaring that jihadism is not warranted by true Muslims, it can accomplish from within what the democratic West, so far, has been unable to do from without.”

Saudi Arabia Must Help End Islamist Terrorism

        • How do these rulers make decisions?

They pay think-tanks, they have plenty of in-house talent, they’ve been around people with power their whole lives. I suspect they’re pretty darn savvy.

What happens if the MB has colonized everything, everywhere? I’ve been looking at different consulting company reports and reading the same thing: Sunni Islamists have to stop their infighting to face off against Iran. Make peace with the Bros.

But Sunni fellowship seems like an awfully flimsy bond for vastly different peoples. Egypt is the natural leader, if there’s to be a team. The Gulf countries can – and do – act as spoilers, but they can’t manage Egypt on their terms. They can barely function within rival tribes.

  3. ‘Islamic extremism’ off limits at White House terrorism summit

WASHINGTON — The White House will kick off a three-day summit Tuesday on combating violent extremism on social media — but the administration won’t focus on Islamic extremism and won’t even mention the term.

“You can call them what you want; we’re calling them terrorists,” a senior Obama administration official said Monday.

The determination not to mention Islam or Muslims comes as ISIS continues its murderous spree in the name of Islam, most recently beheading 21 Egyptian Christians in Libya.

The rub for the Obama administration is that while the murderers cite their faith as motivation, they don’t represent Islam and, therefore, shouldn’t be associated with the religion.

“There is absolutely no justification for any of these attacks in any religion, and that’s the view of the vast majority of Muslims who have suffered huge casualties from the likes of [ISIS] or al Qaeda,” the official told reporters. “We are not treating these people as part of a religion. We’re treating them as terrorists.”

President Obama will speak twice at the summit.

        • He takes the “Thou shall not slander” to another dimension: Make up stories about Islamic history out of whole cloth.

People ask, “Why the decline in Islamic culture in recent history?”

No decline. There never was an Islamic Golden Age. They were receivers of stolen property. Tore up the patents. (Or burned the libraries with source materials.) Destroyed more than they were able to preserve.

The big tribes deteriorated because of inbreeding.
