1. Council boss who refused to quit over grooming scandal gets £600,000 payoff: Victims’ anger over huge redundancy package drawn up on eve of scathing report that will allow her to dodge blame

The council boss whose staff failed scores of girls abused by a sex grooming gang is in inks ine for a payoff worth nearly £600,000.

The bumper redundancy package for Joanna Simons has been drawn up on the eve of a scathing report into the paedophile scandal.

Officials insist the 55-year-old chief executive is leaving Oxfordshire County Council for cost-cutting reasons. But there is anger from victims that the deal will allow Miss Simons to dodge any blame.

Catastrophic failings by the police and social workers meant the abuse carried on for years. In a further development, the chief constable whose force will be lambasted in the same report has been promoted to a new £185,000 a year job.

2. Denmark terror suspect swore fidelity to ISIS leader on Facebook page

Copenhagen, Denmark (CNN)The man suspected of killing two people in Copenhagen swore fidelity to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a posting made on what’s apparently his Facebook page just before the weekend shooting spree.

The post pledges “allegiance to Abu Bakr in full obedience in the good and bad things. And I won’t dispute with him unless it is an outrageous disbelief.”

5. Islamic State: Egypt urges international intervention in Libya

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that what was happening in Libya was a threat to world peace and security.

His remarks came as Egyptian jets bombed IS targets in response to a militant video of the apparent beheadings of 21 Egyptian Christians.

Libya has been in chaos since 2011, with militias battling for control of territory and two rival governments.

But the BBC’s Jim Muir says there is little international appetite for military involvement and the emphasis remains on trying to find a political and diplomatic solution to the country’s problems.

Thank you M., Wrath of Khan, and many more. Just finishing up a 90 second video from Denmark. Suggest people have their Imodium at hand before they watch. Ready in 20 mins or less.

  2. CNSNews: U.S. Expects to Quadruple the Number of Syrian Refugees Brought Here February 17, 2015 7:04AM The United States has “a long tradition of welcoming refugees,” and it expects to welcome thousands more of them from Syria in 2015 and 2016, despite concerns about foreign fighters, the State Department said.

“The United States has admitted 524 Syrians since 2011. We’re likely to admit 1,000 to 2,000 Syrian refugees for permanent resettlement in Fiscal Year 2015 and a somewhat higher number, though still in the low thousands, in Fiscal Year 2016,” spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday.

But at a hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee last week, Chairman Mike McCaul (R-Texas) said it would be a “huge mistake” to bring refugees from Syria and Turkey into the United States where they “could potentially be radicalized.”

Psaki told reporters on Friday that national security “is absolutely a priority” in the decision to admit refugees.

  4. UK rejects military intervention against IS in Libya ‘at the moment’

UK insists the best way to defeat extremism in Libya is through a peaceful transition.

The UK has ruled out any military action against the extremist Islamic State group in Libya “at the moment”.

This was the first major international reaction to the Egyptian call for a UN resolution on military intervention in Libya.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for international military action in Libya, arguing that what is happening in Libya is a threat to world peace and security.

The UK position shows that there is little possibility that Egypt will be able to gain enough support for their endeavour at the UN for military action in Libya.

    • Obama has provoked the Russians, let the Chinese play big boy to the point they think they can take the US and helped the Moslems all he can, this has caused Europe to have to try and take up the slake of the US not providing military protection. All those decades that Europe safely sheltered under the American umbrella and refused to keep large militarizes is coming home to roost. All of Europe combined have enough military power to defeat the Moselms and make Russian aggression so expensive that Putin won’t want to fight, but they can only do one of these at a time and both parties are becoming highly aggressive at the same time. Welcome to the next major war, or should I say the first Hyper war.

      • It’s true. Europe acted soooo superior, calling us ill-mannered cowboys, doing us the favor of leasing space for our military bases. I heard it all the time in Spain. We paid well for the privilege, and the surrounding communities did very well indeed.

Looking down at cowboys isn’t real smart. Europeans might just have to take a number if they expect NATO to swoop in and rescue them.

Jerky Turkey Erdogan has the gall to say he’s not too worried about IS – because NATO will protect him! Let’s hope the storm holds off till after his buddy moves out of the White House. Then let him ask the Kurds.

  5. On BREITBART : Harf: ‘We Can’t Kill Our Way’ Out of War Against ISIS

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf declared :

“I think there’s a few stages here. Right now, what we’re doing is trying to take their leaders and their fighters off the battlefield in Iraq and in Syria, that’s really where they flourish…we’re killing a lot of them and we’re going to keep killing more of them, so are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians they’re in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them, we cannot kill our way out of this war. We need, in the longer term, medium and longer term, to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs…”
