An accused terrorist plotter considered marrying his friend’s underage sister in an effort to turn him toward jihad, a Toronto court heard Monday.
Chiheb Esseghaier is on trial with Raed Jaser for allegedly plotting an attack on a passenger train in Southern Ontario.
In a secretly recorded conversation with an undercover FBI agent played in court Monday, Mr. Esseghaier mused about enrolling another man in their alleged plot.
2. Australia: Extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir sends veiled threat to Prime Minister Tony Abbott
In a direct rebuke to Mr Abbott, radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir will host an event in Lakemba on Saturday night “at a time when state powers seek to belittle the position of our beloved prophet.”
The Federal Government is taking steps to shut down Hizb Ut-Tahrir under a new round of counter terrorism legislation which will outlaw Islamic groups that preach hatred and promote extremism.
The legislation, that will be introduced to parliament by the end of the month, will allow Australia to follow the UK and other countries who have already banned Hizb ut-Tahrir as a terrorist organisation.
A police force has been forced to apologise after an officer visited a newsagents and asked for the details of all customers who bought French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in the wake of the Paris massacre.
An officer from Wiltshire Police visited a local shop and post office in Wiltshire, and requested the personal details of subscribers to the Charlie Hebdo magazine.
It came following the terrorist attack on the magazine’s offices on January 7, in which 12 members of staff were gunned down by extremist brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi.

4. Austrians Say Islam Does Not Belong in Their Nation: Poll
A survey of social attitudes in Austria has revealed the vast majority of Austrians don’t believe Islam belongs in their country, with almost half going further and saying the religion should “definitely not” have a home there.
In the survey, 69 percent of those polled said they did not believe Islam belonged in Austria, a strong rise on previous polls taken before the Charlie Hebdo attacks made earlier in the year, reports TheLocal.at. Even more than that – around three quarters – thought if a citizen left Austria to fight for extremist groups such as the Islamic State, they should have their citizenship withdrawn completely.
Of the nearly seven in ten people who believed Islam didn’t belong in Austria, a sizeable minority went even further, with 42 percent of those polled saying there should “definitely” be no Islam in the country. A similar proportion of people felt Islam was a “threat” to Austria.

3/ The officers ‘may have had good intentions,’ says Shami Chakrabarti. Like what, for instance? Monitoring consumer satisfaction? Checking with customers to see they got the right change? Somehow an apology doesn’t seem quite enough here.
No it isn’t, the officers who went to the store and the supervisors who sent them should all be disciplined.
But they won’t. Part and parcel of the diminution of our private space. Like tracing which books you took out from the library and when.
Unfortunately you are right, we have been indoctrinated to believe that a meaningless apology by some police chief is going to stop the force from trying to take more rights away from us.
