1. Palestinian cartoons praise Tel Aviv stabbing attack

(In my ethical universe, there is quite a substantial difference between mocking an idea or ideology and even its founder, especially when he has been dead for 1400 years, and celebrating an attempted mass murder the same day)

2. It appears that the establishment is using the usual way to dismiss the feelings of over 40,000 people in Germany and possibly millions across Europe by connecting the founder of the German Pegida movement to Hitler. Funny how they never do that to the left. Like when Justin Trudeau’s father, former Prime Minister of Canada dressed as a Nazi and rode around Montreal on a motorcycle frightening people, well that never seemed to be an impediment to his career or his son’s. The German PEGIDA leader likely had a moment of jocularity with the Hitler hair style. But Trudeau actually agreed with him.

3. Boko Haram claims responsibility for massive attacks and announces plans for more.

5. Yemen’s president held captive; U.S. sends Navy warships to Red Sea

Yemen President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi is being held captive by rebels who have attacked his compound, just as the U.S. military has moved the USS Iwo Jima and the USS Fort McHenry into the Red Sea, in position to take aboard evacuees from the U.S. Embassy in Yemen if tensions and violence continue to escalate.

6. Here is an interesting story that needs following. It starts out like a Le Carre spy novel.

There is already more since this story was published. I believe he was arrested and large quantities of this exotic substance was thought to be in his van. But why Ottawa? Why now? What mosque did he go to?

Thank you Bill, M., Richard, ML., and many more.

“The Western world is “vulnerable” to epidemics such as Ebola, and must invest more in researching vaccines, a leading scientist has warned.

Prof Peter Piot told the BBC that developed nations would be in “deep trouble” if they failed to adequately prepare for another outbreak.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, he urged global leaders to take a “long-term view”.

Public health policies must “transcend politics and borders”, he said.

Prof Piot co-discovered the Ebola virus in 1976, and is now in charge of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine….”

“A top EU official has warned that Europe faces a “huge challenge” in persuading Jews not to emigrate in response to anti-Semitism.

European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans suggested the issue was as urgent as the euro’s troubles.

“In some [EU] states the majority of the Jewish community is not sure they have a future in Europe,” he said.

France, with the EU’s biggest Jewish community, has announced sweeping anti-terror measures after Islamist attacks.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said 2,680 new security-related jobs would be created, including 1,100 in police intelligence, over three years.

“Bangladesh has arrested more than 7,000 opposition activists since the start of nationwide protests two weeks ago, ministers have said.

The authorities are struggling to deal with unrest in which activists have bombed vehicles and blockaded roads, and 29 people have died.

Opposition leader Khaleda Zia called for protests on the anniversary of last year’s election.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina denounced the opposition as militants on Tuesday.

She said activists were not engaging in politics, but rather terrorism.

Both leaders have frequently called for general strikes and blockades while in opposition.

  5. Freed German hostage calls Boko Haram captivity ‘total darkness’ (CNN, Jan 21, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/01/21/world/cameroon-boko-haram-german-hostage/index.html

“Cameroonian troops and their allies have freed a German man who was held for six months by Islamist terror group Boko Haram, Cameroonian President Paul Biya said.

Boko Haram kidnapped German citizen Robert Nitsch Eberhard in Nigeria in July, Biya said in a statement read Wednesday on state-run broadcaster CRTV. He did not detail how, when or where the rescue operation took place.

“A special operation of Cameroonian armed forces and security services of friendly countries” freed the man, he said.

Eberhard told journalists he was glad to be alive.

“I am happy to see all these people around me, who have rescued me and made sure that I survived, because until the last minute, I did not know whether I would survive or I would not survive. It was for me a big problem. Because it was darkness, total darkness, and you see nobody around you. Then this is a big problem to say OK, I will survive or not survive,” Eberhard said.

Eberhard was flown in from Cameroon’s Far North Region to Yaounde shortly after noon Wednesday.

He said he was grateful to all those who worked to secure his release.

The German ambassador to Cameroon, Klaus-Ludwig Keferstein, also thanked Cameroonian authorities, particularly because “we could find a solution to this problem of hostage-taking,” he said.

Eberhard spoke amid heavy security and mentioned that he was teaching at a vocational school in Gombe, Adamawa state, Nigeria, before the insurgents took him hostage in July…”

  8. 1/ The cartoons are astoundingly vile, and they must be close to incitement – genuine incitement, not making-fun-of-a-dead-child-rapist bogus incitement.

But if they aren’t incitement, then they are freedom of expression, and we should not only allow, but encourage Muslims to exercise it. It’s a record of what they think, good graphic unambiguous records in this case, more evidence to add to the piles of evidence. As increasing numbers of people snap out of the sleep-walk of political correctness, here are two more examples for them of what they’d been missing.

    • I can’t watch it.

Just yesterday there was a Pal video posted here about how to murder a Jewish boy during prayers. I was hugely upset – not that it was posted, we show what’s out there – but because I recognized it instantly as Monster-Sized incitement.

That it was, that it was indeed.

      • It’s the obvious story, three big bold numbered dots to connect making a line in a small area across a short span of time. Of course the rationale within the BBC story is one of moral equivalence, the cycle of violence, blame on both sides, and after a couple of pictures of the aftermath of the attack there is one of a hijabi walking past some rubble with the caption, ‘More than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in last year’s Israel-Gaza conflict and 18,000 homes were destroyed.’ It is to vomit.

I don’t know if celebration of one crime can constitute incitement to commit another. I can see arguments both ways. But as Vlad tirelessly points out, this is not properly a question of free speech or criminal law at all, but a matter of dealing with enemy wartime propaganda. In such circumstances, the appropriate response can only be to take whatever actions are expedient to stop the enemy from making more propaganda. I’m sure this is no new discussion in Israel.

        • The left ignores the fact that it only takes one side to keep a cycle of violence going, if the other side does nothging the attacks become bigger and more often.

      • The incitment is probably the biggest recruiting tool the Moslems have, it draws in the western Moslems who are bored and want to gain the 72 virgins.

      • Israel can’t stop the incitement alone. And that’s the immediate threat right now.

A video clip – like the one we saw here a couple days ago – provokes assault and murder. Subhuman inbreds, as Big Frank puts it, are extremely vulnerable to the most crude incitement. A kindergarden cartoon serves as inspiration, that’s all it takes.

        PR like that manufactures weapons.

Not so much virgins here as celebrity: Stab someone in the back with a screw-driver and everybody knows your name. A coward peanut-brain becomes an “audacious” hero. Suggest hit-&-run to create mayhem, and strings of such attacks cross borders.

These people are missing a sense of decency most of us consider innate. How else to explain grotesque parodies of heroism that regularly punctuate life on the “Pal Street”?

As long as the west sets up the likes of the PLO and Fatah and Hamas as legitimate representatives of the Pal people, no one is going to stop the crude enemy PR.

Those who facilitate Abbas – this particular episode is on him – are accessories to murder. They include the heads of state who marched with him “against terrorism” in Paris. Plus the filth who provide strings to the puppeteer. That’s Obama, Kerry, Qatar, and Erdogan.

        • The incitement will be stopped when the west starts treating this like a war rather then a large number of individual crimes that aren’t connected. The left and the LSM want us to forget that when the Clintons were in office they treated the terror attacks as crimes and they continued to grow but that when Bush called them acts of war and fought back they stopped.

        • One it’s treated like a war, mechanisms unacceptable in peacetime, like limitations on freedoms of speech and press, can be put in place.

Though I’m not sure it’s possible to shut up Israelis of any persuasion.

      • Any dogma that defines me as other than human is one I reject. Those who act in accordance to such belief are enemies to me and mine.

        • Well said, the left betrays their racism when they say that they must hold Third World people to a lower stander of behavior because but that we must be held to a much higher one. The that action shows their racism and what they really think about the people they are supposedly championing.
