4. Blogger Raif Badawi flogged for founding secularist website

(I am shocked the saudis have not killed him for apostasy. I suppose the US might interfere with certain Saudi interests if they did)

MONTREAL — A man convicted last year in Saudi Arabia of cyber-crimes faced his first round of 50 lashes on Friday.

Raif Badawi, the founder of the “Free Saudi Liberals” website, a place for discussion of the role of religion in Saudi Arabia, had been fined 1 million Saudi riyals (roughly $315,000) and sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes spread over 20 weeks.

Badawi’s wife and three children have been living in the city of Sherbrooke in Quebec’s Eastern Townships for several years. A vigil in Badawi’s honour was held in front of a church in that city on Saturday night.

5. Islamic State makes motivational video for muslims based on the success of the slaughter of the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists.

Thank you M., Richard, GoV., UK Pete and many more. there is some odd things I need to sort out. But I would recommend that people who have links to the original footage of the cop being shot on the day of the Charlie Hebdo massacre have a close look at it. Something is odd there. Like the person’s head seems intact after being hit with an AK47 but there is a blast on the sidewalk. I need to look at that more.

Nigerian officials say government troops backed by air strikes have now begun an effort to recapture Baga. A government spokesman said the security forces were “actively pursuing the militants” but gave few further details.
