2. Charlie Hebdo: the truths that ought to be self-evident but still aren’t

Religious murderers gunned down European freedom in Paris today. Tonight everyone is defiant. I am just back from a ‘Je suis Charlie’ vigil in Trafalgar Square, and the solidarity was good to see. I fear it won’t last. I may be wrong. Perhaps tomorrow’s papers and news programmes will prove their commitment to freedom by republishing the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

But I doubt they will even have the courage to admit that they are too scared to show them. Instead we will have insidious articles, which condemn freedom of speech as a provocation and make weasel excuses for murder without having the guts to admit it.

  1. #2 Nick Cohen ended up slamming Hindu fundamentalists and Buddhists as if they are the same as white racists and only hate Muslims merely because they are Muslims. Totally blind to the centuries long Islamic jihad Hindus and Buddhists have been subjected to. Even when faced with Islamic jihad they are blind to that this is what Hindus and Buddhists have been fighting against all along.

  2. Just 40 mts ago.

The airport said on Twitter “Police officers responded to a situation @ departures curb about 1 pm; shots were fired; victim is deceased. No other injuries.”

No officers were hurt, the airport said. The man was identified only as a Columbus-area resident in his early 40s pending notification of his relatives.

Investigators said the man tried to buy an airline ticket using a fake ID Wednesday.

After returning to his illegally parked car, he lunged at an airport police officer with a knife during a confrontation, police said.

The man had multiple knives on him and suspicious items in his car that led to a bomb squad investigation, Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner said.

  3. I have been thinking about this switch from “Asian” to “No name” policy.

It has got through to the authorities, that people now associate “Asian” with Muslim, and hence the switch. But there can be two other reasons.

    1. The basic object of Jihadi attacks is not the killing per se, but to spread fear and terrorise the Infidel population. If the government denies that there was any terror attack, because
    a) the perpetrators are not linked to al Qaeda etc
    b) are mentally unstable
    c) are not named

then the basic objective of the Jihad is annulled. A few people have died, but the Jihadis ( obeying the order of IS or the koran) have been denied their main objective

    • So you think depriving them of possible fear-engendering PR might be a reasonable rationale for not naming them? They don’t get the attention they’re seeking.
Interesting. I hadn’t thought of it that way.

    • The idea that the jihad has been annulled is interesting but if the news media is to cowardly to show the cartoons and continues to self censor what might offend the Moslems the jihad has succeeded.

        • I don’t know, enough boots on the ground with enough weapons works wonders until our home grown nuts manage to take over and waste the military victory.

  4. But all this is coming to an end. People are fed up, and patience is running short with Islam, and appeasing and lying politicians.

    Enough. Basta.

  6. “… Instead we will have insidious articles, which condemn freedom of speech as a provocation…”

Eventually it will lead to a violent backlash against muslims – who will have brought it upon themselves. The murder of French citizens is a justifiable provocation.

    Cartoons are not.

    • Exactly!

Shrines & Sensitive politicians are not a response. They’re a cringing reaction. Beaten dogs don’t protect the herd. We don’t need them.

These brave people died in vain.

      • Not if their deaths cause enough people to wake up, the reactions of 100,000 people in Europe are semi-good news, if they stay awake and really fight back the deaths won’t be in vain, if they go back to sleep they will be in vain.

  7. Muslim scholar could seek legal advice if Irish media republish Mohammed cartoon

A TRINITY LECTURER and Muslim scholar has said that he would consider legal advice if a member of the Irish media retweets or publishes a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed from Charlie Hebdo.

Dr Ali Selim, of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, made the comments following the shooting dead of 12 people at the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris today.

When asked by Niall Boylan on 4FM if he (Boylan) retweeted the cartoon would his life be in danger, Dr Selim – who condemned the shootings – said:

“Not your life would be in danger but definitely we will check the Irish law and if there is any legal channel against you, we will take it,” he said.

It doesn’t help for peaceful coexistence”

He said he would advise Irish journalists not to reprint the cartoon. “Because it doesn’t help for peaceful coexistence,” said Dr Selim. He described the cartoon as “an act of mockery”.

“You can say love is stronger than hate but you can’t portray the Prophet Mohammed. If the law gives you the right to do it, do it, if the law does not give you the right to do it, then don’t do it,” he said of the cartoon.

Asked if he would seek legal advice if any journalist in Ireland tweets or reprints the cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed, Dr Selim said ‘Yes”.

“Definitely if there is a legal action, I will take it. If you want to blame, blame the law,” said Dr Selim.

“I am a great advocate of freedom of expression,” said Dr Selim, adding that he encourages freedom of expression that does not give room for confrontation, that does not turn one person against another.

He said that if anyone is offended, they have the right to express their disapproval within the boundaries of the law within the State that they live in.
