Britain has been just days from a major terror attack, with five plots foiled in the last four months, Met Police chief Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe revealed today.

Terrorists have been ‘very close to hurting somebody badly, or killing them’ since the summer and there is ‘no doubt’ that there are extremists in the UK as dangerous as the gunman behind the Sydney café siege, the Commissioner warned.

And he claimed officers are struggling to cope with the mountain of digital files seized in police raids, with recent cases seeing terror suspects hours from being released before crucial evidence was found for them to be charged.

“At least 150 females, including pregnant women, were executed in Fallujah by a militant named Abu Anas Al-Libi after they refused to accept jihad marriage,” the statement said.

Last month, at least 50 men, women and children were executed by the IS members in a tribe massacre in the village of Ras al-Maa.

According to reports, the militants lined them up and shot them dead in public

  1. Austrian Muslims accuse government of rights violations

Austria’s Muslim organizations said the government violated the rights of an estimated 600,000 Muslims in the country after officials sent a proposed law, dubbed the “Islamic Bill,” to parliament without first consulting the Muslim community.

“The government has sent the bill to parliament without considering our viewpoint,” Mouddar Khouja, founder of Austrian Muslims Initiative, said at a press conference Monday.

“The draft had to be examined during the Austrian Muslims Initiative meeting on Dec. 21.”

Khouja said Muslims are considered second class citizens in Austria and the government does not take into account the existing laws on religious freedoms and UN laws on freedom of religion and belief.

According to the bill, employing preachers from abroad would be prohibited. Imams would instead be trained at Austrian universities.

Currently, some 300 imams work in the country, including 65 Turkish preachers.

The proposed legislation also contains a new overseas funding ban.

“This bill is not a security or police law,” Khouja said. “About 600,000 Muslims and future generations are concerned.”

“It is unacceptable that the government sent the bill to parliament without consulting the Muslim community,” Austria Turkish Islamic Union President Fatih Karadas said.

At the press conference, attendees said they collected 200,000 signatures that will be submitted to the parliament, a move backed by many Muslim organizations.

Islam has been an official religion in Austria since 1912. The Islam law, known as Islam Gesetz, was introduced by Austria’s last emperor, Franz Josef, after the Austro-Hungarian Empire annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina.

  2. ALGERIA – Islamist calls for Algerian author Daoud to be executed for French TV remarks

A hardline Islamist preacher has called for Algeria’s Goncourt-shortlisted author Kamel Daoud to be executed for apostasy, following an appearance on French TV in which the writer called on the Arab world to “resolve the God question”

There were indignant reactions on social media on Wednesday after Abdelfatah Hamadache Ziraoui called for Daoud to be executed in public, claiming that he is “waging war against Allah, the Koran and the sacred values of Islam”.

Ziraoui leads a Salafist group, the Islamic Awakening Front, which is not officially recognised and is known for its campaigns against the sale of alcohol and people wearing swimming costumes on beaches.

Daoud was on the shortlist for this year’s prestigious Goncourt literary prize for Meursault, contre-enquête, a variation on the story of Albert Camus’s l’Etranger (The Stranger) from an Algerian perspective.

Since then he has been fêted in France and at home, leading to an appearance on popular chat show “On n’est pas couché” during which he said that “we in what’s called the Arab world” have to “resolve the question of God” in order to progress and “share the world”.

“On the basis of a single book a man becomes a fanatic, on the basis of several he becomes a lot freer,” he said.

Daoud, who writes a column for the Quotidien d’Oran newspaper, flirted with Islamism when he was younger and during his TV appearance said that he is still religious.

Ziraoui’s call has angered many Algerians, many recalling the violence of the 1990s when armed Islamists fought the Algerian army and a fatwa declared “those who fight us with the pen must die by the sword”.

An online petition has called for legal action to be taken against Ziraoui and the opposition movement Barakat (Enough!) slammed an “odious and criminal” statement.

On his Facebook page Daoud commented that the fatwa showed where “these people’s feeling of impunity leads”.

      • Islamists call for “public execution” of Algerian novelist Kamel Daoud

Salafists quote Quran on crucifixion and mutilation in online death sentence against award-winning writer

Between the hold-up in Sydney and the cold-blooded slaughter of over 130 schoolchildren in Peshawar – to say nothing of whatever the hell ISIS has been up to – one might have thought the Parties of God had had quite enough excitement for one week.

Yet their appetites for cruelty are never to be underestimated, as the award-winning Algerian novelist Kamel Daoud was unfortunate enough to be reminded yesterday, when a group calling itself the Free Algerian Salafist Islamic Awakening Front published on their Facebook page a demand for his murder.

Citing an alleged description by the “atheist infidel” and “criminal Zionist-wannabe” of the Almighty as “a delirious old man,” the Front “call[ed] on the Algerian regime to sentence him to public execution,” referring to a Quran verse (5:33) mandating punishments including crucifixion and mutilation for “those who wage war against Allah.” Below is my translation of the post in full:

“The atheist infidel Algerian writer Kamel Daoud, the criminal Zionist-wannabe insults Allah Most High and attacks the Quran and wages war on Islam and the Arabic language and treats the sons of the people of Islam with enmity.

The Free Algerian Salafist Islamic Awakening Front says if Islamic law were applied in Algeria then he would face the death penalty applicable for apostasy or atheism on account of his disbelief and atheism and his war against Islam.

Praise to Allah, and prayers and peace upon the Prophet of Allah, and more:

The atheist Algerian Kamel Daoud has attacked Allah and described him as “a delirious old man” and defamed the noble Quran, and the sanctities of Islam, and injured the dignity of the Muslims and their sons and attacked the countries of the Muslims and glorified the West and Zionism, and aggressed against the Arabic language with slander.

And we, the Free Algerian Salafist Islamic Awakening Front, describe his immoral war as aggression against Allah Most High and his great book and the sanctities of the Muslims.

And we call on the Algerian regime to sentence him to public execution because of his immoral war against Allah Most High and the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the book of Allah and the sanctities of the Muslims and their sons and their countries.

We say if Islamic law were applied in Algeria [in terms of reprisal and punishment] then it would be incumbent upon the Algerian regime to sentence him [with death in public] because of his attack on Allah, may his names be hallowed and his qualities be blessed, and because of his insulting the great Quran and his describing the great and exalted Allah with mocking descriptions and ridicule.

And Allah says in his book about them and about the criminals: “Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land”.”

The Algerian security analyst Imad Mesdoua says the threat must be taken “very seriously,” and rightly so. Algeria, like almost every country in the region, has a tragic history with this sort of thing – the secular novelist and journalist Tahar Djaout, for instance, was gunned down by Islamists on his doorstep in 1993. A quarter of a century on from the Rushdie fatwa, it remains as perilous as ever to be a free-thinking or satirical penman in far too many parts of the world. For those who would prefer to hang on to the freedom to write “mocking descriptions and ridicule” of religion, a petition of solidarity with Daoud may be signed here.

  3. Canada PM says Parliament attacker may not have been lone wolf

OTTAWA (Reuters) – The man who killed a Canadian soldier and then stormed the Parliament in October may not have been acting alone, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Wednesday.

Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a Canadian citizen who wanted to travel to Syria, was shot dead after a gunfight in the halls of Parliament.

“People say he was a lone wolf. It’s true he was a single attacker, but it is not necessarily the case that it was only one guy,” Harper said in an interview with the French-language TVA network.

Zehaf-Bibeau struck two days after Martin Rouleau, a Muslim convert, ran down two Canadian soldiers in Quebec, killing one. Rouleau was shot dead by police.

“It is possible there were other people around these men,” Harper said.

He did not elaborate except to say that investigations were continuing.

In the case of Rouleau, he was known to police for his jihadist views, like dozens of others in Canada, Harper said, but police were not able to arrest them or conduct the necessary surveillance, “and we have to address these difficulties.”

Law enforcement authorities around the world are increasingly worried about the risk of “lone wolf”-style militant attacks. While such attackers may cause less mayhem than those backed by militant groups, they are also more difficult to track.
