1. Saudi Arabia: Shi’ite Pro-Democracy Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr to be Beheaded and Crucified

Saudi Arabia has sentenced to death a Shi’ite Muslim cleric who was at the forefront of the country’s pro-democracy protests in 2011 in a move that will likely rekindle sectarian divide in the Middle East, sending shockwaves through the Shi’ite community.

Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, who was detained in 2012 after backing mass pro-democracy protests in the Qatif district of eastern Saudi Arabia, is a champion for greater rights for Saudi minorities, including the country’s disenfranchised Shi’ite minority. He was shot in the leg four times upon arrest by police, causing several days of protests in the Saudi kingdom in which three unarmed protesters were killed by Saudi forces.

DALLAS — Three days after a nurse who treated a Liberian man with Ebola was found to have the virus, a second worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas has tested positive for the disease, state and federal health officials said Wednesday.

The hospital worker, a woman who has not been identified, was part of the medical team that cared for the Ebola victim, Thomas Eric Duncan, after he was admitted to the hospital late last month and put in isolation. The worker reported a fever on Tuesday and was immediately isolated at the hospital.

5. The Halal Racket: Lots of Moolah for the Mullahs….

We’re at war with the Islamic State & no one knows where halal fees go writes .

Islam is at war with us, not the other way around. And  the halal fees go straight into the jihad.  (sheik yer’mami)

We’re at war with the Islamic State & no one knows where halal fees goThe global halal market is set to reach $10 trillion by 2030. That’s a lot of moolah for the mullahs.

And every item of food certified halal has to be checked by an Islamic checker. And it doesn’t stop there. Everything else about the food must be compliant too. The feed. The transportation. Even the packaging. The list goes on.

Forms for halal certification in Australia go into great detail. For instance, processed food suppliers need to give a list of every product and ingredient used. And they also need to give details of the number of employees. Plus the company’s annual turnover figures.

What’s that got to do with the price of a kebab in Mecca?

A lot.

  1. UK – Scotland – Banker admits racial abuse after train passengers recorded him shouting: ‘Muslim men are raping women… It’ll be a different story when they take over the world and you’re all wearing burkhas’

An investment banker racially abused a woman on a late-night train, saying: ‘Go back to your own f*****g country.’

Neil Docherty, 43, of Linlithgow, West Lothian, also slapped the woman on the head on the Glasgow to Edinburgh rail service, a court heard.

And he ignored a female passenger who told him to shut up over his racist rant and said: ‘It’ll be a different story when they take over the world and you’re all wearing burkhas!’

He later alighted from the carriage, but irate on-lookers aboard took Docherty’s photo on a camera phone – and helped the authorities track down the investment banker.

Docherty appeared in Livingston Sheriff Court today on a bail undertaking and pled guilty to two racially aggravated offences.

He admitted assaulting Fella Hammach, 33, on board the train at Linithgow, West Lothian, on August 28.

He also admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner which caused or was intended to cause alarm and distress to Ms Hammach by shouting and swearing, acting in an aggressive manner and directing religious remarks towards her using racially offensive language.

After a public appeal, Docherty surrendered himself to police and was detained.

He gave a ‘no comment’ interview and made no reply to caution and charge.

Gilliam Taylor, defending, said her client worked as an investment banker and would co-operate with the preparation of reports.

Sheriff Peter Hammond called for Criminal Justice Social Work background checks. Docherty will be sentenced later.

  3. LIBYA – Another Tripoli mosque attacked

Vandals have again attacked a historic mosque in Tripoli’s Old City. Today it was was the Shaib Al-Ain Mosque.

It is alleged that a group of extremists have been patrolling Tripoli’s mosques listing those that need to be “purified” of such things as graves in grounds or excessive adornment or are known to follow Sufist teaching. The same happened two years ago, when several mosques were ransacked and vandalised and one, the Sidi Sha’ab Mosque opposite the Radisson Blue Mahary Hotel, was completely bulldozed.

So far, the Karamanli and Darghouth mosques have been attacked as has the Othman Pasha Madrassa. The attacks have been condemned by both the Libyan Committee of Ulema and the Ministry of Interior, but nothing is being done to protect Tripoli’s mosques from what are alleged to be elements within Libya Dawn forces.

  5. IS group has made ‘substantial gains’ in Iraq: US

Washington (AFP) – Islamic State jihadists have scored important advances in Iraq despite a sustained US-led air campaign, Washington’s envoy to the coalition fighting the group said Wednesday.

It was clear the IS group “has made substantial gains in Iraq” and that it would take time to build up local forces that could defeat them in Syria and Iraq, John Allen, a retired four-star US general, told reporters.

Although Iraqi government and Kurdish forces had succeeded in halting or pushing back the IS militants in some key battles including around Mosul dam, the group had “tactical momentum” in other areas, Allen said.

He acknowledged the United States and its allies were concerned with the situation in Iraq, where IS extremists had seized much of the western Anbar province.

“The emergency in Iraq right now in Iraq is foremost in our thinking,” he said.

Speaking after a tour of the Middle East in which Allen spoke to coalition partners and Iraqi leaders, Allen emphasized that military power alone would not be sufficient to defeat the IS group — a point often made by the White House.

He said “the key and the main takeaway from this trip was that we all agree that while the military side is important to the outcome, it is not sufficient in and of itself.”

At the moment the plan was “to take those steps that are necessary, with the forces that we have available and the air power that we have at our fingertips” to buy time to train and arm Iraqi security forces.
