1. Nothing crazy screwed up about this at all. This is in Copenhagen Denmark just FYI

2. PBS joins the organizations that use your money to lie to you about the threat, the nature of the threat and the origin of the threat to all of our liberties and lives.

3. UK terror threat: Police put on special terror alert for their own safety

4. U.S. wants access to Turkish air base for training Syrian rebels

(More training and weapons for ‘moderate’ Syrian ‘rebels’ apparently. As an aside, its a damn good thing there was a sale on for ‘single quotes’ this week. I will need them all apparently)

5. Threat Far Greater Than Previously Stated : Security services monitoring ‘thousands’ of terrorism suspects in London

(It’s worth clicking over just for the image)

6. Mosque arson in Germany: Turk confesses to attacks

(Well, I guess you have to give them credit. Muslims are equal opportunity destroyers. They seem to be behind both mosque vandalism, burnings and so on as well as churches and synagogues)

Thank you Yucki, Richard, M., GoV and all.

“The governor of Iraq’s Salahuddin province says a journalist from a local television network has been killed by the Islamic State group.

Governor Raed Ibrahim says Raad al-Azzawi, who was a cameraman for Iraq’s Salahuddin Television, was killed by militants on Friday in the city of Tikrit. Ibrahim said he wasn’t able to provide any further details.

The Islamic State group, which holds large swaths of land stretching across the Iraq-Syria border, has beheaded a number of journalists in Syria, saying the killings are in retaliation to U.S.-led coalition airstrikes in Iraq and Syria….”

  4. Leaders of Iraq’s Anbar province call for U.S. ground forces to stop ISIS (CNN, Oct 11, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/10/11/world/meast/isis-threat/index.html

“Leaders in Iraq’s western Anbar province appealed Saturday for help from U.S. forces on the ground to halt the relentless advance of ISIS fighters. The situation in the province, just to the west of Baghdad, is “very bad,” the president of Anbar Provincial Council told CNN by phone on Saturday.

Sabah Al-Karhout said the council has intelligence that ISIS has dispatched as many as 10,000 fighters to Anbar from Syria and Mosul in northern Iraq. The council’s deputy head, Falleh al-Issawi, told CNN that it had asked the central government to intervene immediately to save the province from imminent collapse — and to request the deployment of U.S. ground forces there.

That would be a significant shift, since the Iraqi government has until now been adamant that it does not want U.S. forces on the ground….”

  6. Turkey agrees to train Syrian opposition fighters

Turkey has agreed to allow Syrian opposition fighters to train within their borders by American and Turkish special forces.

The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that Turkish officials had reversed a long-held position on training such troops within Turkey. At least 2,000 moderate opposition fighters will receive training from U.S. and Turkish experts. Turkey agreed to allow the training as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) began to make inroads to the Syrian Kurd city of Kobani, which sits close to the Turkish border.

U.S. and coalition forces have executed a number of airstrikes against ISIS forces in the region, but nonetheless the group continued to make inroads towards taking control of the city. If ISIS takes control of the city, there are concerns they could massacre inhabitants that have not yet fled into Turkey.

Turkey now joins Saudi Arabia in permitting the training of forces to support U.S. and ally efforts to combat ISIS in the region.

U.S. officials said the operational details of the training program are still being worked out, but the Journal reported that fighters will be trained in groups of 400, and Turkey intelligence will screen and select the fighters to receive training.

The moderate troops, once trained, would then be able to assist forces aligned against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and ISIS.
