“US-led coalition air strikes have hit Islamic State (IS) targets near the besieged Syrian town of Kobane on the border with Turkey, the Pentagon says.

An IS building and two “armed vehicles” were destroyed at the Kobane border crossing, US Central Command announced.

Other strikes hit IS targets elsewhere in Syria and in northern Iraq.

Kurdish fighters have been defending Kobane against IS since some 140,000 civilians fled the town and surrounding area for Turkey.

IS shelled Kobane on Saturday and several people were killed, the BBC’s Paul Wood reports from the scene.

“Shiite rebels in Yemen who overran much of the capital signed a security deal on Saturday that stipulates disarmament and withdrawal from areas they have seized in recent months.

The Shiite rebels, known as Hawthis, signed the deal as part of a comprehensive agreement brokered by the United Nations. Their political rivals, the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islah party, and other parties signed as well.

It remains to be seen whether the Hawthis will abide by the deal. They are the strongest force on the ground in the capital Sanaa, where they have deployed thousands of fighters, set up checkpoints and seized weapons from army barracks.

On Saturday a man on a motorcycle fired a portable missile at the armored vehicle of security guards protecting a building rented by the U.S. embassy around two blocks away from the embassy itself, causing a loud explosion but no casualties, a Yemeni security official said. 6. 3 Suspected Syria Jihadis Face Charges in France (abcnews, Sept 27, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/suspected-syria-jihadis-face-charges-france-25804812

“A judge has filed preliminary charges against three suspected French jihadis who went to Syria and returned home after turning themselves in to Turkish border police.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said Abdelouahab El Baghdadi, Imad Djebali and Gael Maurize were placed under investigation Saturday for criminal association involving a terror group.

Djebali’s lawyer, Pierre Dunac, told The Associated Press that three returned after growing disillusioned about jihadist groups — including their mistreatment of civilians. He said they denied having terrorism plans in France.

The three went free this week because of a botched transfer between Turkish and French police, but turned themselves in Wednesday.

El Baghdadi is a brother-in-law of Mohamed Merah, a jihadi who killed seven people in southern France in 2012 before dying in a shootout with police.”
