Gingrich: ‘Nobody Wants to Tell the Truth’ About Radical Islam

“The truth is this is a radical Islamist group. They say openly if you don’t convert, we’ll kill you. It turns out they actually mean it. There’s no complexity…The president couldn’t even honestly describe ISIS last night because it goes against his ideology.”

WHO: Ebola outbreak in West Africa an international health emergency (CNN/Video, Aug 8, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/08/08/health/ebola-outbreak/index.html

“Global health experts on Friday declared the Ebola epidemic ravaging West Africa an international health emergency that requires a coordinated global approach.

Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are battling the Ebola virus, which has also spread to Nigeria. The virus is believed to have infected 1,779 people, killing 961, from the start of the outbreak earlier this year through Wednesday, the World Health Organization said.

“The possible consequences of further international spread are particularly serious in view of the virulence of the virus, the intensive community and health facility transmission patterns, and the weak health systems in the currently affected and most at-risk countries,” WHO said Friday after two days of emergency meetings.

The U.N. health agency described it as the worst outbreak in the four-decade history of tracking the disease….”

  4. Ebola outbreak: Nigeria declares national emergency (BBC, Aug 8, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28715939

“Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has declared the outbreak of Ebola “a national emergency” and approved more than $11m (£6.5m) to help contain it.

The move comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) said the spread of the virus in West Africa was an international health emergency.

WHO says 961 people have died from Ebola in West Africa this year, two of them in Nigeria.

The total number of cases stands at 1,779, the UN health agency said.

In a statement, President Jonathan called on Nigerians to report any suspected Ebola cases to the nearest medical authorities.

He also urged the public not to spread “false information about Ebola which can lead to mass hysteria”.

Nigeria became the fourth West African country involved in the outbreak when a dual US-Liberian citizen infected with Ebola arrived in Lagos after flying from Liberia via Togo on 20 July.

He died five days later and eight people who came into contact with him were also later diagnosed with Ebola. One of them, a nurse, died on Tuesday.

Nigeria’s state oil company said on Friday it had shut down one of its clinics in Lagos following a suspected case….”

  5. Al-Qaida Militants Kill 15 Yemeni Soldiers (abcnews, Aug 8, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/al-qaida-militants-kill-15-yemeni-soldiers-24908261

“Al-Qaida militants killed 15 soldiers in southern Yemen after seizing them from a public bus on Friday, military officials and witnesses said, in apparent retaliation to an army offensive against the group.

The officials said the soldiers had been heading to Sanaa, the capital, for vacation from the southern city of Sayoun when militants stopped their bus, checked IDs and led soldiers out of the bus.

Militants shot them to death near the ancient city of Shibam, in the southern province of Hadramawt, officials said. Witness Naser Mahfouz said bodies of the soldiers were beheaded. It was not possible to verify his account.

Officials said an initial investigation showed that Jalal Belaidi, al-Qaida field commander in Sayoun, orchestrated the attack. Belaidi is among Yemen’s most wanted al-Qaida militants and is accused of carrying out a series of attacks in the city, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press….”
