News links for March 10 2014 – 1

Thank you all for your patience. You should notice that the site loads, and usually loads faster than usual now, but I have had problems with email yesterday, and received none and sometimes the people did not get a bounce back. So anyone who sent me anything may wish to resend. Also I am told not only is the comment field not working right it replies with a fairly rude message. Sorry about that. It is being worked on. Please try again in a few hours from now. Overall, this is going swimmingly well! (Thanks ML)

1. Global Debt Exceeds $100 Trillion as Governments Binge, BIS Says

(Maybe its time the planet Earth got a paper route. Or maybe part time as a bartender somewhere. Maybe Jupiter?)

The amount of debt globally has soared more than 40 percent to $100 trillion since the first signs of the financial crisis as governments borrowed to pull their economies out of recession and companies took advantage of record low interest rates, according to the Bank for International Settlements.

The $30 trillion increase from $70 trillion between mid-2007 and mid-2013 compares with a $3.86 trillion decline in the value of equities to $53.8 trillion in the same period, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The jump in debt as measured by the Basel, Switzerland-based BIS in its quarterly review is almost twice the U.S.’s gross domestic product.

2. Parents protest at school’s ‘Halal-only’ lunch

Furious parents staged protests outside a school over its decision to serve up only halal meat at lunchtimes.

Staff were forced to call the police after one father strode into the school in North London to challenge the new meals policy. […] At Kingsgate, parents carrying placards congregated at the school gates to demand a reversal of the policy, claiming their children would be denied a choice.

But the protests triggered claims of racism from parents of Muslim children, who make up three quarters of the school population.

(That father had the right idea. Don’t bury a pigs head and go to jail for nothing. Go stage a legitimate proper protest and then when they arrest you, you are in the right and the law the wrong)

3. Man’s last will and testament asked that all would please cancel their subscription to the NYT in lieu of flowers etc.

(Not reading the NYT is an important part of being well informed)

4.  Fatwa issued against Russell Crowe’s new £75million blockbuster Noah as three Arab countries ban it for ‘violating Islamic law’

One of the world’s most respected Islamic institutions has issued a fatwa against a Hollywood epic about Noah’s Ark because it ‘contradicts the teachings of Islam’.

Russell Crowe’s £75million film Noah has also been banned in three Arab countries after religious leaders complained that it depicted the Biblical figure – who is also a holy messenger in the Koran.

Due to premiere later this month, the blockbuster will not show in Qatar, Bahrain or the United Arab Emirates and several other countries are expected to follow suit.

(Interesting that the fatwa isn’t on Crowe himself. I guess the muslims aren’t quite confident enough yet to threaten a known Hollywood entity as Hollywood continues to act on behalf of Islamic ambitions for the most part. Still, it is interesting that in all other cases of art offensive to islam, the fatwa is on the artist and yet strangely this time…)

5. Hate Preacher (Choudary) Drives ‘Al Qaeda van’ Through London Street. Brietbart

Thank you Richard, GoV, Fjordman and all. I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping track well, sorting the site out has taken the minimal level of concentration I have available. Should be back to normal now though.

  1. My last comment was referring to Choudary and at last I can finally comment. All my other comments failed when I tried to post them.

  2. In a sane world this site wouldn’t exist and I would be focused on a career and family. Let’s hope there is still time. Good to see the comments working again. Thank you firewall people.

  3. UK Telegraph: Mystery fake-passport holders on flight MH370 were Iranian

A BBC Persian report says that the two Iranians on the Malaysia Airlines plane had bought the fake passports in order to migrate to Germany and Denmark

The two men travelling on stolen passports on the Malaysia Airlines flight
MH370 that mysteriously disappeared on Saturday have been identified as Iranian
    nationals.

A BBC Persian report quotes an Iranian friend of one of the men,
who said he hosted the pair in Kuala Lumpur after they arrived from Tehran in
the days preceding their flight to Beijing.

The friend, who knew one of the men from his school days in Iran, said the
men had bought the fake passports because they wanted to migrate to Europe.

The pair were travelling on passports belonging to Christian Kozel, an
30-year-old Austrian, and Luigi Maraldi, a 37-year-old Italian.

They had bought the passports in Kuala Lumpur as well as tickets to
    Amsterdam, via Beijing.

  4. That level of debt is not sustainable, this is why so many experts are predicting another recession or possibly a depression.
