  1. Attack on security forces kill 6 in Pakistan (CNN, March 5, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/05/world/asia/pakistan-attacks/index.html
“An attack targeting a convoy of paramilitary forces killed six people in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkwa on Wednesday. A roadside bomb exploded while the convoy was going past, the Pakistani military said. The attack injured 11 others. The convoy was made up of the Frontier Corp, a military force that comes under the paramilitary command of Pakistan. On February 17, the militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) killed 23 abducted soldiers leading to a breakdown in peace talks with the government. On March 1, the TTP announced a ceasefire. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack.”

  2. 2/ The same-72-virgins-after-the-first-million-years joke was pretty good.

Knowledge is spreading if a mainstream comedian can get laughs about sura 9.

4/ ‘School yard bully tactics. An attempt to silence dissent from anybody who has a differing view.’ Tactics no Muslim Brotherhood front group is a stranger to.

No news at their new website – still says they’re building it. Just a phone number in case anyone wants to help NCCM ‘challenge Islamophobia.’

  3. Government to CAIR-CAN: We are so very sorry that you consider Hamas better friends than Israel and don’t like Rabbis, but it is not our problem.

  4. SYRIA – Jihadists attacked a Sufi mosque in Tal Maruf

Jihadist fighters have destroyed a mosque in northern Syria, which to them represented a heretic form of Islam. These jihadists, who are part of the extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (known as ISIL) attacked the mosque after taking over the Kurdish city of Tal Maruf in late February.

“I saw Korans that had been thrown to the ground and burned”

The jihadists entered the city at night and attacked the mosque in the early morning hours. I could see them from my house. They wrote insulting messages on the walls and on the mosque door before setting it on fire, leaving the Korans inside to burn.

  6. EGYPT – CAIRO – Activists heading to Gaza stuck at Egypt airport

CAIRO (AP) — More than 40 women on their way to Gaza as part of a delegation for World Women’s Day are staging a sit-in inside the Cairo International Airport after being refused entry into the country since Tuesday, airport officials in Egypt and activists said Thursday.

Among the participants from the U.S.-based anti-war group Code Pink’s delegation are U.S., French and Belgium citizens.

Ann Wright, the U.S. delegation’s organizer, said Thursday that a few activists have elected to return home, while at least three activists had been deported, including Mairead Maguire, a 1976 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Medea Benjamin, an American activist, said Egyptian police fractured her shoulder when she refused to board a plane to Turkey.

Wright said the group had planned to take a bus from Cairo to the Rafa crossing and walk across the border. Egypt’s border with Gaza has been closed since last month as authorities combat smuggling and Islamic militants in the Sinai Peninsula. Relations between Egypt and Gaza also remain tense after the military ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July

  10. YEMEN – Al Qaida in Yemen executes alleged US informer

Aden: Al Qaida militants in Yemen executed one of their own Thursday after accusing him of spying for the US, a security official said.

The man was executed by firing squad and his body was displayed at a football stadium near Shehr in the southeastern Hadramawt province, an Al Qaida stronghold, the source said. Yemen is the ancestral home of Osama bin Laden and the home base of Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which Washington views as the global jihadist network’s most dangerous franchise.

When police arrived at the scene, the man was hanging with the Al Qaida black and white flag alongside a banner reading: “A US spy in the Arabian Peninsula,” the official said.

A statement was also found in which AQAP threatened to execute “any intruder who infiltrates among Muslims, places chips in their vehicles and their wedding convoys and gets them killed in return for a few dirhams,” according to the source.

“These spies are the striking force by which the crusader US enemy reaches us,” it added. The American military flies drones over Yemen in support of Sanaa’s campaign against Al Qaida and has killed dozens of militants in a sharply intensified campaign in the past year.

A US drone strike in northern Yemen on Wednesday killed four suspected Al Qaida members, including one who had fought in Iraq. The drone strikes have also killed several civilians, triggering criticism from rights groups.

The United Nations said 16 civilians were killed and at least 10 wounded when two separate wedding processions were targeted by drones in early December. The victims had been mistakenly identified as members of Al Qaida, the UN quoted local security officials as saying at the time.

The US says drones are an essential part of its counter-terrorism efforts, allowing it to target militants in lawless areas where local security forces cannot or will not apprehend them.

  11. China attackers wanted to do jihad abroad’

A group of people from China’s restive western region of Xinjiang who carried out a deadly weekend attack at a train station were trying to leave the country to wage a holy war, state media said on Wednesday.

“They could not leave from Yunnan, so they looked elsewhere, and went to Guangdong province, but also could not leave, so they returned to Yunnan,” Qin was quoted as saying.

They then went to Yunnan’s Honghe county, which borders Vietnam, where they planned, if they were unable to leave the country from there, to carry out jihad either in Honghe or at railway or bus stations in Kunming, he added.

Qin said that “some people” who had been in contact with the eight were also in detention, though he gave no details.

[…]Qin said that lessons needed to be learnt from the attack, which took place hundreds of km (miles) from Xinjiang in a subtropical province better known for its scenic beauty and largely harmonious relations with ethnic minorities.

“Our awareness of terrorism was not enough, and we could not have imagined before that terrorism could happen here.”
