The number of UK-born children identified as being trafficked for sexual exploitation more than doubled last year, according to figures released earlier this month by the National Crime Agency (NCA). The 155% rise is in the number of children and adults referred to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) – a process set up by the government to identify and support victims of trafficking in the UK. It is used by voluntary and statutory agencies to refer individuals they suspect have been trafficked.

  1. #8 I remember those times will, that was before the far left took over the Democats.

#7 I hope the current government of Britain doesn’t use this as an excuse to force people to use internal passports.

  2. #1 A 9 year old except in extreme cases has not hit puberty yet. As Eeyore has pointed at suicide by a person of this age is virtually unheard of.

  3. Richard, you are right :/

#7 I never thought of it.

They will make the problem worse by inaction on immigration and prosecution and then enact the internal controls. You know they will.

    My day just got worse.

  4. @Blue, sorry about that I have been hearing rumors that Obama is trying to figure a way to force the internal passports down our throats, no articles on the subject just rumors. That made me think that since Britain is slightly further down the authoritarian path then the US them may take advantage of this issue to go even further down that path.

  5. EGYPT – The charges brought against Malik Obama by Dr. Sadek Raouf Ebeid and his attorney in Egypt have now been brought to the attention of tens of millions of Arabs, via el Qahera wal nas (Egypt and its people).

  6. TURKEY – Demonstrators have gathered in Istanbul’s central Taksim Square as well as in central Ankara to protest against Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government.

Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of Turkey’s two main cities for the second consecutive dayin protest against Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government after corruption allegations against the prime minister surfaced.

Demonstrators gathered in Istanbul’s central Taksim Square as well as in central Ankara.

It followed protests the previous day in six Turkish cities – Istanbul, Ankara, Trabzon, Sakarya, Izmir and Eskisehir.

Wednesday’s protests were organised by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) after leaked recordings of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan and his son allegedly discussing how to hide large sums of money became public late Monday.

Erdogan has angrily dismissed the recordings as a “vile attack” by political rivals, but that did not seem to convince protesters, who chanted “There are thieves!” and “Government resign!”

Demonstrators also shouted “Everywhere is bribery! Everywhere is corruption!”, a play on a popular chant often heard during the huge anti-government protests that took over the Taksim Square in June, “Everywhere is Taksim! Everywhere resistance!”

On Tuesday, protesters burnt barricades and threw fireworks and rocks at police officers in Istanbul. Police fired plastic bullets and tear gas.

Mustafa Sarigul, CHP’s candidate for Istanbul mayor – the biggest prize in the March 30 elections – called on the government to resign and the media of the “democratic world” to demonstrate what was happening in the country.

Party officials handed out fake money amounting to 30 million euros ($A41 million) – a reference to the leaked recordings – before the crowd dispersed without any violence.

In one recording, Erdogan’s son Bilal can supposedly be heard saying some 30 million euros remains to be disposed of.

The conversations were said to have taken place on December 17, when a high-level corruption probe implicating key Erdogan allies erupted

  8. Yucki I can understand the reaction, if it hadn’t been for Kennedy we would have the big ring space stations of SF, Luna City and towns on Mars by now. That alone is enough to blacken his memory for anyone who loves science fiction.
