1. Iran: Fatwa orders women to keep wearing the Islamic veil

Tehran, 28 January (AKI) – Iran’s most senior Shia clerics including the nation’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have decreed that women they will be punished under Islamic law if they don’t wear the veil.

“The veil remains obligatory for all Iranian women and the Islamic Republic has the right to imposed this norm across the whole country,” read the edict or fatwa, cited by the Digarban website.

2. VIDEO: Fury at protest group’s legal bid to stop planned £17.5m mosque in Cambridge in which they claimed it could be “front for terrorism”

A protest group has been criticised for a legal application to stop a £17.5 million mosque being built in Cambridge, in which they claimed it could be “a front for terrorism”.

Stephen Gash, of Stop Islamisation Of Europe (SOIE), and Sareeta Webra, founder of Sikhs Against Sharia (SAS), made an application for a Cambridge County Court injunction to prevent the mosque in Mill Road being built.

The application calls for a “court injunction to be served against the Muslim Academic Trust for construction of a mega-mosque”.

The Home Office document, marked restricted but leaked ahead of a crunch vote by MPs, reveals there are about 12,000 foreign prisoners in the UK – and another 4,000 who have been freed after serving a sentence but not deported. Their offences include murder, manslaughter, rape of a minor and kidnap. The report predicts that numbers of more serious offenders will increase and admits: ‘Some countries are extremely difficult to remove a non-compliant person to… these include Iran, Somalia and Zimbabwe.’ The leak came as rebel Tory MPs will today threaten to back a Commons motion that would make it easier to deport foreign criminals after their sentence…”

    “Iraqi police have won back full control of a ministry building stormed by gunmen who took civil servants hostage, the Interior Ministry and security sources said Thursday. Six gunmen were killed in the police operation to retake the Ministry of Transport in northeast Baghdad. Police killed four militants, while two of the militants detonated suicide vests, the sources said. Two police officers were killed and seven injured in the attack. The hostages were freed unharmed.
    Police earlier said that the militants had overrun the Ministry of Human Rights building, adjacent to the Ministry of Transport. Roads were blocked around the Iraqi capital following the attack, and areas leading to Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone were closed. Separately, two car bombs exploded Thursday in different areas in the northeast part of the capital, killing four people and injuring 14 others. One hit a popular market area, a police source said…”

  4. 4/ Tarek’s 99% hotdog-eating baseball-loving moderate Muslim line is b.s. At the same time, I don’t generally get the sense from him that he’s deliberately trying to b.s. people with it. It’s more like he’s unable in the final analysis to come to terms with the real nature of Islam himself.
