They’re violent, they’re dangerous and they’ve managed to elude police.

Between them, they face a combined 35 charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault with a weapon, using a firearm to commit an offence and forcible confinement.

They are the five most wanted suspects by the Ottawa police guns and gangs unit.

“These are guys that are high-risk offenders,” said Ottawa police Staff Sgt. Mark Patterson, head of the guns and gangs unit. “Obviously, because of their charges, we want to ensure we apprehend these guys.”

All five are members or associates of street gangs.

Ahmed Zalal: The 27-year-old got hard time after pleading guilty to being the gunman in a drive-by shooting at a Walkley Rd. Tim Horton’s in 2008.

Zalal fired into a crowd standing outside, seriously injuring one man, who was hit in the chest. But it wasn’t the man Zalal had been trying to hit, court heard, as he sought revenge for the murder of his brother.

Maher Majed: High on the police radar too – the 23-year-old is wanted in connection with a deadly triple shooting. A 20-year-old man died and two others were injured after shots rang out outside a Borthwick Ave. home in March 2012.

Behzad Behruzi: This 27-year-old is wanted in for several offences, including a Dumaurier Ave. shooting this summer, where cops say shots were fired during a dispute in August.

  1. Atheists face death in 13 countries, global discrimination: study (Reuters, Dec 9, 2013)

“In 13 countries around the world, all of them Muslim, people who openly espouse atheism or reject the official state religion of Islam face execution under the law, according to a detailed study issued on Tuesday … A first survey of 60 countries last year showed just seven where death, often by public beheading, is the punishment for either blasphemy or apostasy – renouncing belief or switching to another religion which is also protected under U.N. accords. But this year’s more comprehensive study showed six more, bringing the full list to Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen…”

  2. I wonder if they’re replacing our homegrown thugs, or only displacing them in the hierarchy of most wanted – that is, most unwanted? Still we keep the immigration floodgates open wide.
