1. The policy here (or at least the effort is made albeit not always successfully) is to not post anything about internal US politics as much as we may want to, as it diminishes the focus of the site and risks alienating people who may be onside about islam but like Obama or some of his internal policies. Sometimes this happens when I mock anthropogenic CO2 as a cause for global warming. Some people who truly believe that lose interest in the site which was an islam-critical resource for them. However this article from the Economist seems balanced enough and reasonable enough that I think its worth posting and it also touches on his foreign policy which is within the cross hairs of this site, as the USA is the geo-political prime mover. It is an easy read and not too long but says a lot.

2. The two bearded clams arrested for threatening an aircraft recently seem to be getting a smoother ride from the court than they did from the airline. There is much here that does not make sense.

4. BBC: Anti-social injunction plan ‘threat to free speech’

They say it is so badly drafted that almost any action could be construed as causing a nuisance.

  1. SYRIA – Al Qaeda militants filmed executing rival Syrian rebel faction as the Islamists seeks to marginalise other groups

    – Seven men filmed kneeling on the ground before being shot in the head
    – Executions carried out by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant
    – Group targeting more moderate rebel groups in civil war with Assad forces

Al Qaeda militants have been filmed executing seven men from a rival rebel Syrian faction as part of a campaign to marginalise other moderate groups in the civil war.

The amateur video, apparently taken on a mobile phone, shows the men kneeling on the ground before each one is shot in the head and slumps forward onto the ground.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, have taken advantage of a power vacuum in rebel-held areas to assert its authority over more moderate elements of the armed opposition.

  2. Egypt court jails women and girls over Muslim Brotherhood protest

An Egyptian court has handed heavy prison sentences to 21 females, including seven girls under the age of 18, for being members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The military government in place since the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi has banned the brotherhood, deeming it a terrorist organisation.

The government is also cracking down on protests, with a new law banning public political gatherings of more than 10 people without a police permit.

The women and girls were arrested while taking part in a protest in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria last month to demand the reinstatement of Morsi.

The group stood inside a large cage as they faced court in the city, and were found guilty of several offences related to the protest.

Seven girls aged 15 and 16 are due for release when they turn 18.

The rest of the group – women aged 18 to 22 – were sentenced to 11-year jail terms.

Authorities also sentenced six men, said to be leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, to 15 years in prison. They were found guilty of inciting the women to cut key roads during the October 31 clashes between opponents and supporters of Morsi.

  4. #1 The essay omits one very important point about Obama’s internal policies, they are violating the Constitution. There is nothing in the Constitution allowing him to provide medical care for people or to force people to buy anything.
