2. Russian Muslim clerics warn of unrest over ban of translation of Koran

Tuesday’s ruling by a court in Novorossiysk, a city in southern Russia, ordered the widely read text outlawed under a Russian anti-extremism law that rights activists say has been abused by local officials out of prejudice or to persecute groups frowned upon by the dominant Russian Orthodox Church.

Rights campaigners said that the decision, which will apply nationwide unless it is overturned on appeal, comes dangerously close to banning the Koran itself.

I am confused. They should translate the Koran so people can read it. It should be a faithful translation not a candy coated translation.

If a person grows up in a Muslim family, they will probably be Muslim regardless of this law. But many Muslims cannot read or speak Arabic beyond some key words. So translating the book might open their eyes.

Translating the Koran into other languages coupled with active proselytizing in the arena of ideals by other religions and humanists will probably not go well for Islam.

Shadadeh sounds awfully Persian to me. Persian was almost erased as a language in the few centuries after the conquest by Arabs. What is needed is promotion of Persian classical literature.

And promotion of Persian culture in general.

    what is the alternative

Everyone called Mohammed Mohammed. forget the name Shadadeh?

We could get creative to be abler to tell people apart like

    Mohammed Mohammed 1
    Mohammed Mohammed 2
    Mohammed Mohammed 3

    Mohammed Mohammed X

or Mohammed Mohammed 4 of 7 billion.

Do the Persian gambit, Get a presidential pardon for Shadadeh and stuff it down the throats of the cultural imperialists.

  3. 2/ The Muslim arguments here against banning the Koran are dishonest as usual.

“You could ban the Bible just as easily because it also has passages that talk about the spilling of blood.”

“All people of goodwill” in Russia stood “in solidarity with the stormy and longlasting anger of the global Muslim community” when Pastor Terry burned some Korans.

But yeah, the muftis should have their translation. Publish, publicize, expose this plagiarized, hate-filled, incoherent, sorry excuse for a holy book. And release whatever those 2,000 other publications are that the country has blacklisted.

  4. It was a different Europe with the printing press, increasing literacy, devout people reading the bible in their own language. It was not uncommon for women to learn to read especially the bible.

Of course there is some bad with that and there is a reason for pastors, but being able to read the bible you can challenge the pastors who should never have been pastors. In most denominations just because you graduate divinity school does not give you a right to become a pastor.

I believe it is the Presbyterians that believe that the congregation or at least its’ elder select the pastor and that the pastor is not “forced” on them form top down. It is very much that way in Scotland ( an effect or literacy Bible translation, Gutenberg & Calvinism).

The Salafis & other Muslims make a distinction between each other. In the Muslim world who we call Islamicists, are called Islami. there is a distinction between Islami and Muslims.

Mark Levin has Muslim bankers, decent folk. Mark is not shy about speaking his opinion.

But world wide when you stack up the numbers it looks depressing. there does not seem to be enough good Muslims percentagewise.

  5. The Moslems know how reading the Koran will drive people away from Islam, that is one off the reasons it is not published in chronological order.

  6. IRAQ – Suicide Car Bomb Kills 54 At Funeral In Shiite Area Of Baghdad

The attack on the funeral happened around dusk in the densely populated Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City in northeastern Baghdad.

Police said at least 54 people were killed and more than 70 were wounded. One bomber was able to drive up near the tent before detonating his deadly payload, and another on foot blew himself up nearby.

  7. @ Richard,

I have a Koran. I started at some chapter called “The Chair” if I remember correctly. It was incredibly boring. I didn’t get past 2 pages.

  8. Blue:

If you want to make reading the Koran more exciting, read it on public transportation, making sure the cover is visible and that you mark with a pen important parts you want clarification for, or you want to make sure you remember for quoting, and dog ear it and when necessary tear out a page here and there and fold it and stick it in your pocket. I promise you no boredom. But if you want to know its content read Robert Spencer’s guide to the Koran or Pain Pleasure and Prejudice by Bernard Payeur. They are both excellent analysis on it.

  9. Reading the Quran is a lot of work, but it can be done over a month-or-so. If you bear in mind that the Quran is not a fun read, and that you will only be able to absorb a part of it, it is possible to read and understand the thing. There are also companion books called “Hadiths” that go along with the Quran and make it a lot more understandable. Force yourself to read a few pages every day, whether you are bored or not, and understanding will come. It basically repeats and pounds-in the same message over and over again. “Do as you are told or you will be punished severely!”

And once you have read the Quran, people like Barack Osama and John al-McCain look like ignorant fools. Once you’ve read the Quran, all the Middle East news starts to make sense. Osama bin Laden makes sense. Suicide bombers make sense. Their fanatical need to suppress freedom of speech makes sense. The only thing that doesn’t make any sense is the real identity of the “Mainstream Media”, and what his/her/their motivations might be in constantly tipping the scales in favor of the Jihadists. If anybody figures that one out, please let me know…

  10. I do not see a sura called “The Chair”, there is one called “The Cow” (#1) and another called “The Table Spread”.

Does not matter. It was boring.

  11. In school we were all forced to read and study boring things, reading the Koran and the Hadiths are studying for survival, the books may be boring but the knowledge may wells ave you and your family in the future.
