4. Charges dropped against Pakistan cleric in blasphemy case: lawyer

(Interesting that they haven’t arrested the cleric for blasphemy because he had to create some to manufacture evidence against the Christian girl. This speaks volumes about the Islamic psyche. Its never about the crime. Its about who does it)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A Pakistani court on Saturday dismissed charges against a cleric who accused a young Christian girl of blasphemy and who was arrested last year for allegedly forging evidence against her, his lawyer said.

The case had brought new spotlight on Pakistan’s harsh blasphemy laws, sections of which carry the death penalty or life imprisonment. However, the laws retain broad support in this country, where Islamic conservatism is on the rise alongside extremism and many Muslims are highly sensitive about their faith.

  2. Egypt’s State Information Service Statement-to-Foreign-Correspondents

Statement by the State Information Service (SIS) on current events in Egypt
    (August 17, 2013)

[…]Egypt is feeling severe bitterness towards some Western media coverage that is biased to the Muslim Brotherhood and ignores shedding light on violent and terror acts that are perpetrated by this group in the form of intimidation operations and terrorizing citizens let alone killing of innocent people and setting churches and public and private property on fire along with storming police stations and blocking roads and all other forms of thuggery and sabotage.

[…]more than five vehicles have entered Ramsis square, in Cairo downtown, carrying masked elements carrying the black flag of al-Qaeda along with automatic weapons amid celebrations by the Muslim Brotherhood elements who were present in the square.

[…]They also ignored making reference to the participation of non-Egyptian elements from Pakistan, Syria and Palestine in violent acts committed by the Brotherhood group.

  3. Thousands of Morsi supporters protest in Turkey

Thousands of supporters of Egypt’s ousted leader Mohamed Morsi took to the streets in Turkey on Saturday to denounce “massacres” of his loyalists.

Some 4,000 people gathered at a mosque in Istanbul shouting “Down with (army chief Abdel-Fattah) al-Sisi” and “Morsi in power!” an AFP photographer reported.

Carrying Egyptian flags the protesters also implored the Muslim world to “help the Egyptian people who are being massacred.”

In the central Turkish city of Konya, nearly 10,000 people turned out in support of Morsi and his embattled loyalists, according to the Dogan news agency.

Turkey, which backs Morsi, has hardened its tone towards Egypt, recalling its ambassador to Cairo over the violent crackdown, prompting a tit-for-tat move by Egypt.

  5. EGYPT- Mosques to close between prayers after Fateh stand-off: source

Major mosques have been ordered to close amid fears Muslim Brotherhood supporters could take control of them, according to an official source at the Egyptian Endowments Ministry.

There have been clear instructions to close mosques after each prayer session for fear people may hide weapons inside them, which the ministry strongly prohibits, the source added.

Official instructions were sent to workers in major mosques, including Nour Mosque in Abbaseya and Mostafa Mahmoud Mosque in Mohandiseen, to close them after each prayer, so as not to let mosques become a focus point in clashes or a store for weapons.

Fateh Mosque in Ramses Square became the focus of fighting on Saturday afternoon as security forces cleared the building of protesters.

Hundreds of supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy had taken shelter in the mosque following bloody clashes with security forces on Friday, which the Muslim Brotherhood had dubbed its “Day of Rage.”
