  1. 5 in one month, no way these are all accidents.

I still say someone tampered with the safety devices and the signal system to cause this wreck.

  2. There are low electrical charges run through the rails, when the rails are shorted by a train or a piece of metal the signals (lights like stop lights and crossroads) turn red and the trains are required to stop. The system also shows the signal board at the dispatchers office where the trains are and would report two on one line.

The system also shows the dispatcher when the signal (the low current) is broken by a rail being broken or the rails separated at a joint. This will happen unless the two rails are connected with a copper wire to allow the signal to continue undisturbed.

  3. These Ramadan activities dont look too “spiritual” to me…

“The attack on the jail in the town of Dera Ismail Khan began with several explosions, according to reports.

Gunmen then opened fire with rocket-propelled grenades and machine-guns, police chief Sohail Khalid told the Reuters news agency.

The prison houses hundreds of Taliban and militants from banned groups, the agency reports.

The fighting began late on Monday night and is still going on…”

  4. Maybe not linked to political crisis… Maybe just linked to Ramadan…

Cairo vendors killed in mass brawl (BBC, July 29, 2013)

“At least 12 people have been killed in a fight in central Cairo involving street vendors.

Egyptian state media reported that the brawl took place in the al-Moski area of the capital.

The fight was reportedly caused by a dispute between street vendors over spaces.

Most of the victims died after a shop they took refuge in was set on fire, according to a report by the AFP news agency.

There is so far no suggestion that the fight is linked to the political crisis in Egypt…”

  5. @ Richard

I do not doubt you that there are 5 train accidents in a month. I have seen 3 reported here and elsewhere, France, Spain and Switzerland. What were the other two? The driver of the Spanish train looks like he is taking the blame for the wreck. It is possible that this is a a statistical anomaly. I am not so sure.

We would have to have previous history and then model train wrecks with a statistical distribution like the Poisson distribution. Then we would test out hypothesis.

  7. Red there was 1 in Canada and then two in France with Spain and Switzerland that makes 5

  8. Frankly I think we should count the ones we stopped by catching the mujahadeen that had planned to do them. Just because we prevented it doesn’t mean it was never going to happen and should count as what would have been another train disaster in this time period.

  9. I agree with you, there were two derailments in Missouri earlier this year but from what I read there were no injuries, just some coal cars turn over.
