I think no one should do a public speech, a school play, a coffee shop concert without a variation on Mick Jagger’s joke. Something like, “I want to thank you all, members of the PTA and faculty for coming to this meeting and to President Obama, we don’t know where you are but we know you are listening…”
How ironic, sir. Long ago, here in Russia every public speech sounded just the way you said above, with reverent invocation of the omnipresent almighty: “… and of course this achievement was only possible thanks to wise guidance of the Soviet Communist Party, and General Secretary Brezhnev’s personal supervision of this nation!” I wonder why we humans never learn from our neighbors’ errors. Sad indeed to observe America astray on the same dangerous path that Russia escaped but recently.
Good idea, I hope people start doing this.
