Tony Blair today makes his most powerful political intervention since leaving Downing Street by launching an outspoken attack on ‘the problem within Islam’.

The former Prime Minister addresses the shocking killing of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich by going further than he – or any front-rank British politician – has gone before over the issue of Muslim radicalism.

Writing in today’s Mail on Sunday, he departs from the usual argument that Islam is a peaceful religion that should not be tainted by the actions of a few extremists.

Instead, Mr Blair urges governments to ‘be honest’ and admit that the problem is more widespread.

‘There is a problem within Islam – from the adherents of an ideology which is a strain within Islam,’ he writes.

‘We have to put it on the table and be honest about it. Of course there are Christian extremists and Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu ones. But I am afraid this strain is not the province of a few extremists. It has at its heart a view about religion and about the interaction between religion and politics that is not compatible with pluralistic, liberal, open-minded societies.’

  1. Dumb SOB. “Of course there are Christian extremists and Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu ones”

Well Tony, name some of those other extremists. Oh, you can’t, can you.

    Neville Chamberlain Redux.

  2. I fail to understand all the hatred toward Tony Blair – especially on the subject of radical Islam. Tony Blair keeps a copy of the Quran on his desk and reads a bit every day, which makes him one of the few Western leaders who have even the slightest idea of what is going on in regards to the Islamic takeover. He gets it, and said so quite clearly years ago. Yes, he’s a big-deal historically famous socialist, but he gets the Islam thing quite well. As a matter of fact, if there is one person on earth who truly knows the score, it might well be Tony Blair…

  3. looking at the replys to the article, it seems more of the same leftwing fanatics claiming that Christians and others are as hateful as the extremist Muslims. You and I know better. We realize that there is a major problem with Islam. Muslims never assimilate into a society they migrate into. They eventually try to change society to their way of thinking or ideology. Islam is an evil hateful ideology hell bent on controlling the entire world. Everywhere you have Muslims, you have riots and outragious murders such as took place in the UK. Cutting heads off isn’t something you see Christians and other religiions taking part in. Yes we have murder and rape but seldom do we see gang rapes by others then Muslims. Their treatment of women leads to these gangs preying upon our women. When the UK and the rest of the free world wakes up, then and only then can we start to attack the evils of Islam. Recognizing that there is a problem is the first step. Unfortunately here in the US and in most parts of Europe, our leaders continues to deny this. Its the citizens who are attacked by the press and politicians when we speak out against the evils of Islam. Shame on Obama, Shame on Cameron, Shame on all those who support such an evil ideology.

First. I agree with you, Christianity and Islam there is no comparison.

Remember though Tony Blair’s sister turned to Islam and that is has affected him deeply.
This argument maybe the only thing she responded to of course too no effect.

I believe the primary reason they deny Islam is a threat is rooted in comparing Christianity to Islam.

It is rooted in Shallow mindedness. Christianity the only extremist are those killing abortion doctors. In Christianity there are no ministers or the pope advocating to execute those that go against Christianity. In Islam the leadership openly issues assassination orders or a Fatwa

Islam it is a top down evil. In Christianity it is nearly unheard of

When you address this point they talk about the crusades. Again they don’t understand the crusades. Crusaders after I learned more about them in my opinion are the most noblest heroic people trying to defend their lands and people that ever lived whom yes they made a few mistakes over the course of hundreds of years.

  6. Chris Jones:….

If Tony Blair understands what is going on with Islam why on earth did he open Britain’s gates to millions of them coming in? Bit like putting the fox in the hen house don’t you think?

Perhaps it slowly dawned on him as he served his Prime Ministership – who knows. Otherwise, why would he have broken ranks with the left and joined up with George W Bush, to the great detriment of his career? Tony actually reads the Quran on a daily basis, or he says he does. But remember, his closest advisors would be members of Muslim/Christian outreach programs and would be lying their bearded little heads off. Heck! Do you think George W Bush was expecting lies when his advisors told him that Islam was essentially a religion of peace? That would have been some towering “expert” like John Esposito. Remember, if a modern politician breathes one politically incorrect word the mainstream media will instantly label him an extreme right-wing tin-foil-hatter and their careers will end in a matter of days. John Stewart will have them for lunch. You can’t just stand up and tell it like it is – not if you expect to be still standing the next day. I wouldn’t ignore the importance of Blair’s statements; it’s more than anybody else is saying…

  8. I think he has slowly changed his mind, making him a rarity in liberals, of course he may be simply following the political winds and taking the stance he things will bring him the most votes.

  9. Tony Blair is still trumpeting the Tiny Minority of Extremists within Islam line of bullshit. And he has Chris Jones bamboozled.
