An evening with Daniel Pipes in Toronto

The newest schism in the counter-jihad seems to be based on the notion that Islam is inherently antisemitic, or inherently violent and with a central dogma of jihad for manifest destiny or is it some odd modern offshoot of Islam that started after WW2 and has created all the problems and the solution is to fight that and embrace the other.

Daniel Pipes and a few others went to speak in Toronto at a synagogue representing the second set of positions more or less. The audience did not take to it very well. I will post the speeches as I get them. For now, the Q&A after the lecture is quite interesting. Daniel Pipes makes what at least appear to be disparaging remarks towards Pamela Geller, who has done rather exceptional work in terms of preserving freedom of speech within the US and winning important victories as well as at least publicly presenting the case that Islam and its influence in the Western world has a negative impact. She was one of the first to do it, and do it under her own name. The audience did not take well to that either.

More to come but it can all be seen here at BlogWrath.com

  1. “Founded in Egypt in 1928[3] as a Pan-Islamic, religious, political, and social movement by the Islamic scholar and schoolteacher Hassan al-Banna,[4][5][6][7] by the end of World War II the Muslim Brotherhood had an estimated two million members.[”

So what is this post WW2 stuff.

they have hated us for a long time. Qutb hated us. He attended a university in Colorado in 1948. He did not like us then. I believe he is typical of the Muslim Brotherhood. Not only this but it is before the Liberal excuse of the 1953 coup.

“. But, in fact this American experience was not truly a crisis for Qutb, but rather a moment of choice and fine-tuning of his already Islamic identity. He himself tells us on his boat trip over “Should I travel to America, and become flimsy, and ordinary, like those who are satisfied with idle talk and sleep. Or should I distinguish myself with values and spirit”

He hated us before he even arrived in America.

And he really did not like Jazz or African-Americans.

“The American is primitive in his artistic taste, both in what he enjoys as art and in his own artistic works. “Jazz” music is his music of choice. This is that music that the Negroes invented to satisfy their primitive inclination”

  2. Audio is difficult to comprehend on this video.

However, if I understood it correctly, it was very satisfying to see a large audience refute this pompous academic’s pipe dream. Pipe’s narrative is unraveling before his eyes. His insistence that there is a V-A-S-T majority of moderates yet simultaneous dismissal of audience protests about the persistent absence of this V-A-S-T majority addressing the violence of their own brethren because this V-A-S-T majority isn’t organized or well funded actually validates Pamela Geller’s, Robert Spencer’s, Andrew Bostom’s p.o.v.

  3. Pipes has always been very inconsistent. To hear him spout this is no surprise. What does baffle the mind is why he would want to push such a nonsensical position even though history and the Quran flatly refutes it. Probably cut from the same cloth as all the PC elite.

  4. I wouldn’t trust Pipes to tell me the time. I am not fooled by suits or sneers.

  5. He is not a man of history if he is claiming this ridiculous thing. This would be news to the entire Indian subcontinent (which includes once all Hindu/Buddhist Afghanistan), and old Persia (think Zoroastrians who were persecuted) if Islam only became violent after WW2. Here is but ONE example of Muslim violence:

“…Life at Tipu’s court was a dream for our hardy adventurer, but he began to have some misgivings. In his diary entry of January 14, 1799, he writes: “I’m disturbed by Tipu Sultan’s treatment of these most gentle souls, the Hindus. During the siege of Mangalore, Tipu’s soldiers daily exposed the heads of many innocent Brahmins within sight from the fort for the Zamorin and his Hindu followers to see.” …..

…..After this interval, we find another diary entry in which Ripaud is appalled at what he witnessed in Calicut (Kozhikode): “Most of the Hindu men and women were hanged…first mothers were hanged with their children tied to their necks. That barbarian Tipu Sultan tied the naked Christians and Hindus to the legs of elephants and made the elephants move around till the bodies of the helpless victims were torn to pieces. Temples and churches were ordered to be burned down, desecrated and destroyed. Christian and Hindu women were forced to marry Mohammedans, and similarly, their men (after conversion to Islam) were forced to marry Mohammedan women. …..

…..Another diary entry of Ripaud says: “To show his ardent devotion and steadfast faith in the Mohammedan religion, Tipu Sultan found Kozhikode to be the most suitable place. Kozhikode was then a centre of Brahmins and had over 7,000 Brahmin families living there. Over 2,000 Brahmin families perished as a result of Tipu Sultan’s Islamic cruelties. He did not spare even women and children.”…” http://www.outlookindia.com/article.aspx?284803

  6. This would also be news to non-Muslim middle Easterners, Armenians, Serbians, Black Africans etc….that Islam is not inherently violent and with a manifest destiny.

  7. I guess this would be news to the US Founding Fathers as well:
“Barbary corsairs and crews from the North African Ottoman provinces of Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli and the independent Sultanate of Morocco under the Alaouite Dynasty (the Barbary Coast) were the scourge of the Mediterranean. Capturing merchant ships and enslaving or ransoming their crews provided the Muslim rulers of these nations with wealth and naval power. The Roman Catholic Trinitarian Order or Order of “Mathurins” had operated from France for centuries with the special mission of collecting and disbursing funds for the relief and ransom of prisoners of Mediterranean pirates.

Barbary corsairs led attacks upon American merchant shipping in an attempt to extort ransom for the lives of captured sailors, and ultimately tribute from the United States to avoid further attacks, much like their standard operating procedure with the various European states.[2] Before the Treaty of Paris, which formalized America’s independence from Great Britain, American shipping was protected by France during the Revolutionary years under the Treaty of Alliance (1778–83). Although the treaty does not mention the Barbary States in name, it refers to common enemies between both the U.S. and France, which would include the Barbary States or pirates in general. As such, piracy against American shipping only began to occur after the end of the American Revolution, when the U.S. government lost its protection under the Treaty of Alliance………In March 1785, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams went to London to negotiate with Tripoli’s envoy, Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman (or Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja). Upon inquiring “concerning the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury”, the ambassador replied:

It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy’s ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once.
