Anti-Semitic posters were put up around downtown Winnipeg Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, alleging that Mayor Katz and members of Winnipeg’s business community are involved in questionable business transactions.

Police are investigating after anti-Semitic posters targeting Mayor Sam Katz and other prominent Jewish Winnipeggers were plastered across downtown on Friday night, angering the B’Nai Brith organization and senior Manitoba MP Vic Toews.

The unsigned posters, which were taped to light standards just prior to the Rosh Hashanah Jewish holiday, allege that Katz and certain members of Winnipeg’s business community are involved in questionable business transactions.

“To me, it’s a pretty straightforward and blatant hate crime,” David Matas, a lawyer for B’Nai Brith Canada, said of the posters bearing the headline “$Hitler’s List” and also naming siblings David, Leonard and Gail Asper, city CAO Phil Sheegl and developer Sandy Shindleman, among others.

“It’s awful to see this happen,” Matas told the Winnipeg Sun from Hamilton, Ont.

The mayor, whose name is at the top of the poster’s list, said by e-mail that he’s “extremely saddened and disheartened that an individual, or group of individuals, is posting such material.”

Katz added that he has “faith that the people of Winnipeg will not support such malice.”

The posters were reported to city cops on Friday about 9:30 p.m. after they were spotted along Broadway and “all sort of in the same downtown area,” said Patrol Sgt. Wally Antoniuk.

  1. Why do some people never learn from the mistakes of history?
The Jews as a Worldwide population are insignificant in number but historically have been the World’s biggest scapegoats. When they are rich they are seen as being greedy or corrupt and are persecuted for it, but when they were poor and living in ghettos they were also persecuted.
Despite the BLATANTLY OBVIOUS thuggery of Islam, there are some that believe that Jews are the real thugs and are trying to rule the World. Talk about willful blindness!
Have some people completely lost the plot? Yes, I’m afraid that they have.
Behind anti-Semitism there is always great evil, complete irrationality and possibly mental illness.
Why is this the case? Who knows? Does anyone have an explanation?

  2. I see it as the green-eyed monster, jealousy. They’re jealous that Jews are so intelligent & so successful in numbers far greater than the general population. One only has to look at the business world, financial world, medical world, inventions and Nobel prizes to get the picture.

  3. Antisemitism is once again politically correct, in most of the world and rapidly becoming politically correct in the rest of the world.
