Turkey: State TV ”censures” Lennon’s Imagine

ANSAMED:

(ANSAmed) – ANKARA, AUGUST 14 – An incomplete translation of John Lennon’s song Imagine during Turkish state TV coverage of the Olympics closing ceremony has the country’s independent media and secular opposition up in arms.

A reporter from state-run TRT television translated the famous song live, but omitted the last part of the lyrics when he came to the lines ”Imagine… nothing to kill or die for / And no religion too.” Oversight or censorship? The jury is still out, but the center-left opposition and secular organizations accuse Islamic nationalist Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan – whose pet project is a gigantic mosque to dwarf all other mosques, which he has promised the people of Istanbul – of secretly wanting to Islamicize the country.

  1. Thats ok yo bastards, bring it on. (Fucking up John Lennon songs, what a bunch of cunts)

  2. I am an agnostic theist & religion is important to me. I believe that man cannot live by bread alone. Although a good paycheck, great spouse & the having the rest of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs met is a good start.

I disagree with people about how we would go about achieving one world government & making it more or less irrelevant. However I really want a world without war or strife.

What I am saying is that I might exactly agree with the particulars of the lyrics, I agree with the sentiments (a lot).

Apparently, the Islamicists &m jihadists feel challenged, They should be, as of today they are moral midgets. Next Tuesday doesn’t looked good for them either.

  3. I always hated Imagine and even John Lennon not long before he died said he didn’t like it either. He became a conservative not long before he died that is why I believe the fan of John Lennon really killed him.

Chapman (the guy that killed Lennon) later said that “He told us to imagine no possessions, and there he was, with millions of dollars and yachts and farms and country estates, laughing at people like me who had believed the lies and bought the records and built a big part of their lives around his music.”

    Here is the translation:

meno ektos (i still remain an outcast)
    i still remain an outcast
    i remember names
i run at the speed of light

    i still remain an outcast
    like some voiceless mouths
that a lotus drove out of this world

    in my bachelor evenings
    i sing armenian songs
    i want to go back
    but my paradise is closed

    in my bachelor evenings
    i sing armenian songs
    i want to go back
    but my homeland is erased

    i still remain an outcast
my speech is made of vibrating chords
i’m poised in silence like an eagle

    i still remain an outcast
    like some shapes
written on the sand by a believer

Nicely written to. There are a lot of great Spanish songs and Italian songs I don’t know what they say but I love listening to them. But this one the words are important
