The situation in Egypt seems very fluid with blame for the attack Sunday shifting rather quickly. Personally my money is on Iran or an Iranian directed proxy more precisely.

Egypt’s army vowed Monday to “avenge” the killing of 16 troops by gunmen near the Israeli border, as President Mohamed Morsi ordered security forces to take full control of the Sinai Peninsula.
In Sunday’s attack, 35 gunmen in Bedouin clothing opened fire on the troops before crossing into the Jewish state in an armoured vehicle, Egyptian officials said. Israel said five gunmen were killed on its side.
The 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, under which Israel withdrew from the Sinai which it had occupied in the 1967 Middle East war, set strict limits on Egyptian troop numbers in the peninsula.
But Israel has complained of growing lawlessness on its southern border since the overthrow of veteran president Hosni Mubarak last year and called for action by Cairo.
“We swear in the name of God to avenge them,” the Egyptian army said. “Egyptians will not have to wait long before they see a reaction to this attack by terrorists.”
“Anyone liaising with these groups that have attacked our troops in the Sinai in recent months will pay dearly, be it inside Egypt or abroad,” it added.
Eeyore, if you’re right, this is what Mahound Morsi’s intentions of closer ties with Iran has translated into: setting up people from one side to be attacked by the other, and then blaming the Jewish piñata for it, as they always do for all of their self-inflicted problems.
When they demolish the Great Pyramids and allah fails to turn Egypt into a blend of Switzerland and Japan as a reward for that act, as far as prosperity, living standards, cleanliness, organization, security and life expectancy are concerned, who do you think those tourist-revenue-deprived morons will blame for it?
I don’t think this is Iran or just Iran. Iranian terrorists seem to be more direct in their goals. Terrorists that sprout up out of nowhere to make an attack that just happens to support a Muslim Brotherhood goal (like provide an excuse to increse Egyptian army presence in Sanai – as Egyptian President and MB member has been calling for), well, the MB has a decades long history of doing that.
The article appears to be winking in that direction.
It could also be that Iran is trying to cause tensions between Egypt and Israel to escalate.
All these viscious childish, pointless, shenannagans make me wonder why our country isn’t already covered in windfarms and solar panels.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
The IDF should really look past this statement by Morsi.
My bet is on the MB, this attack helps them in their goal of attacking Israel.
With a stronger Egyptian military presence in the Sanai, it makes Israel’s option of retaking it less easy, lessening that threat as a detriment to continued petty little attacks.
Increased Egyptian Military presence in Sanai will directly facilitate more petty little attacks like this.
It will also make it less easy for the IDF to cross the border in persuit of terrorists.
This is similar to the attack that happened recently. Israel persued terrorists into Sanai then Egypt claimed they killed Egyptian Soldiers.
So these two incidents may very well be connected and be a part of some sort of Egyptian/MB campagn against Isreal.
