Move over Dearborn.

The Muslim Association of Canada has invited you to join yet another fun-filled yearly event. The Muslim Summer Festival will be held in Ottawa’s Britannia Park on Saturday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. In the past thousands have come to take in the pleasures of diversity and this year’s theme The World in One City, certainly won’t disappoint.

These yearly summer happenings have been recognized by the City of Ottawa as a city-wide festival. According to MSF’s 2011 press release, the goal is to “promote greater understanding and appreciation of Muslim culture among our fellow citizens of Ottawa”. The festival’s host MAC, states:

MAC’s roots are deeply enshrined in the message of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). Its modern roots can be traced to the Islamic revival of the early twentieth century, culminating in the movement of the Muslim Brotherhood. This movement influenced Islamic activities, trends and intellectual discourse throughout the world including those of Muslims who came to Canada in search of freedom, education and better opportunities.

MAC is a wholly Canadian organization that operates only in Canada. It has no organizational link or affiliation with other organizations. It strives to practice Islam as embodied in the Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and as understood in its contemporary, comprehensive, and balanced context by the late Imam Hassan Albanna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. MAC regards this ideology as the best representation of Islam as delivered by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)”.

Although the Muslim Association of Canada states it has no affiliation with any one group, it clearly finds inspiration from the Muslim Brotherhood whose goal is clearly defined.
