France vows gun crackdown after nightclub shootings

The subject of gun crime is back on the agenda in France after two separate shootings outside nightclubs within a matter of days. The government has vowed to take action while fearful nightclub owners are demanding police support.

By Ben MCPARTLAND (text)
A second nightclub shooting on consecutive weekends in France forced authorities on Monday to promise swift action against the growing issue of gun crime.

Ten people were injured in the early hours of Sunday morning when a man armed with a hunting rifle burst into the Vamos nightclub in the northern town of Bertry and opened fire, sending panicked revellers and staff running for cover.

The attack came just a week after a cloak-room attendant and a party-goer were killed at Theatro nightclub in the northern city of Lille when a gunman shot indiscriminately at terrified staff and patrons, with what was believed to be a Kalashnikov. Five other people were injured.

The shootings have sparked concern among the government, France’s poorer communities, where guns are seemingly more and more commonplace, and those who work in the night-club industry.

Gun crime a ‘priority’

Mustafa Belaïdi, whose 27-year-old son Hamza was killed in the Theatro club shooting, led the calls for tougher action.“We must dismantle the gun networks and severely punish those who carry military weapons,” he said.

It continues to say:

“Authorities are under pressure to explain how both alleged gunmen, who had a history of violent crime, were able to get access to firearms despite the existence of a recent law which bans criminals convicted of violent crimes from owning weapons.”

No names of course.

  1. “Mustafa Belaïdi, whose 27-year-old son Hamza was killed in the Theatro club shooting”

Hey, they are killing each other! Anyway, either the ban on kalashnikovs should be enforced, or everybody should be able to buy them.

  2. “Authorities are under pressure to explain how both alleged gunmen, who had a history of violent crime, were able to get access to firearms despite the existence of a recent law which bans criminals convicted of violent crimes from owning weapons.”

Crooks will get their hands on weapons so long as they WANT TO, regardless of any law. It’s just law-abiding individuals who end up being denied the right to bear firearms because of restrictions or bans on gun ownership.

  3. Under the current Leftist system, the citizens will eventually lose all their rights. There will be even tighter firearms restrictions leaving ordinary people unable to defend themselves and there will be more restrictions on freedom of speech including the inability to criticize Islam.
Meanwhile the criminals will be armed including immigrants and Muslim jihadis. When the Muslims decide it’s time to take over, they will then do so with ease as the indigenous population will neither be fully aware of the threat (due to free speech ban) nor able to defend themselves against it (due to weapons ban).

  4. trouble is; as long as a hunting rifle is of non-military chambering, then the french authorities do not require it to be licenced or even registered and that goes for semi autos also.
which is why, in france, you can get ar15s chambered in .222rem. as opposed to the more usual .223rem.
same goes for black powder hand guns, even if they are center fire.
this means that even raving loonies that are “free” can get them.
no way to run a nut house.

  5. Bilbo that actually sounds good, if the ordinary people can lay their hands on firearms the criminals will start backing off, here in the states crime is down in the states that allow civilian ownership and carry but up in the others.

Guns are tools, nothing more. They are also the tools that allowed the ordinarily people to gain their freedom from the monarchies. Once weapons became available that could take an armored knight off his horse feudalism fell, in the 20th Century the wanna be dictators/Royals and Nobles decided to push for gun control so they could rebuild feudal systems with themselves on top.

Kalashnikovs are inaccurate, underpowered pieces of junk, they were designed for the spray and pray school of marksmanship. As long as our enemies are armed with AKs we are safe from most infantry attacks.

I was going to say the same.

Criminals will get guns as they dont obey the law anyway. Laws, such as the ones forbidding ownership of guns, only applies to the law abiding.

  7. Military weapons are going to be imported into Europe from north africa. They have to be, if muslims are goinf to succeed in an eventual land grab in the countries they have colonized. I predict that discoveries of weapon caches are going to become more common, and gun crimes by muslims will increase. Safe bets.

  8. Agree with ‘softly Bob’-

“Under the current Leftist system, the citizens will eventually lose all their rights. There will be even tighter firearms restrictions leaving ordinary people unable to defend themselves and there will be more restrictions on freedom of speech including the inability to criticize Islam.”

    Absolutely.

And weapons for the Mohammedans plus the necessary hardware to make explosives is coming from the Balkans 3 Islamic emirates, which were established thanks to Klintoons bombing of the Christian Serbs. The borders are open, so just about everything comes in from North Africa or from greater Albania. Only law abiding citizens can’t get guns.

  9. “how both alleged gunmen,… were able to get access to firearms despite the existence of a recent law which bans criminals convicted of violent crimes from owning weapons.””

That reporter just lost his job

  10. Lost his job why? Because he revealed information that runs contrary to the narrative? Cause I would think he got a raise for massaging the public back to sleep by repeating the mantra that gun control laws generally keep everyone safe.

  11. Eeyore you are probably right, when the organic animal byproduct hits the air circularity system big time the fate of Europe is going to depend on who the police and military support, the people or the government?

Gun Control has long been called victim disarmament or criminal empowerment, what is scary is that this month the UN is meeting to discus a new treaty that would require all small arms to be registered with the government. And If memory serves me correct the UN having the ability to decide which firearms are useful for “sporting” purposes.

and they in turn, will depend on the support of the people, from whom their members volunteer.
cops and soldiers, without poular support, are nothing.
the reason there is political/military confrontation in egypt is because the musturds won a v slender majority, the army know they have many supporters amongst the people.

  13. Yes, that is called non-violent, or civil resistance. That is why European governments take their own populations serious at all. They have the guns, the Muslims have guns, but the populace is necessary to generate the income and to keep the machine running.

  14. Bilbo you are right, but an unarmed populace without military and police support are easily put down if the government is willing to shed their blood, this is why the USSR lasted so long and why Red China still exists. Dictator that was willing to shed the blood of their unarmed populace has ever been kicked out of office. Peaceful resistance aka civil disobedience is fine as long as the Government is will to let you be disobedient, when they stop being tolerant they can crush the resistance with force if they are willing to shed blood.

This is why I say that when things turn nasty and the Europeans start rioting and fighting their success depends on who the military and police support. The power of the sword (the armed personal to commit violence) controls who is in power if those in power have a military that will fire on their own citizens.

Yes that is what it sounded like to me. The way he worded it didn’t sound like the law was working.

But it is interesting that is how you read it and I can see your point.
The interesting part is the same line can be interpreted for either a pro-weapon or anti-weapon point of view. That is some amazing writing really.
