A ‘sexual predator’ is facing years behind bars after being found guilty today of raping a law student who was ‘turfed off’ the last bus home because she was 20p short of the £5 fare.

Joseph Moran attacked his 22-year-old victim as she was left stranded in a city centre at 3am because a bus driver refused to wait a few moments for her to use a nearby cash machine.

Shocking CCTV footage showed the student pleading with the driver for eight minutes before he eventually turned her away.

Speaking after the verdict, the officer in charge of the case questioned why other passengers who boarded the bus while she begged to be allowed on failed to lend her the 20p she needed for the 14-mile journey home.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Griffin, of Notts Police, said: ‘It is tempting to start to attribute blame, and one might try to blame the driver of the bus.

‘But had she got on the bus, I think he would have attacked someone else. The only person to blame is Joseph Moran.

‘It is difficult to speak for the other passengers on the bus and they made a judgement that night. Knowing what they know now, they may have given her that 20 pence.’

  1. Never mind the other passengers. If the bus conductor is prepared to leave a young woman behind late at night then he should be sacked. After leaving her in the street, knowing he operates the last bus, just what does he expect the girl to do? Walk home 14 miles?

  2. People have to be taught to have compassion, the schools stopped doing this because it was teaching Christianity and way too many parents bought into the idea that the schools should do all of the teaching and they should stay out of their childs education.
