A 1000 ‘HONOR’ KILLINGS LAST YEAR IN PAKISTAN ALONE

Oh, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Islam.

Nearly 1,000 Pakistani women ‘killed for honor’

At least 943 Pakistani women and girls were murdered last year for allegedly defaming their family’s honor, the country’s leading human rights group said Thursday.

The statistics highlight the growing scale of violence suffered by many women in conservative Muslim Pakistan, where they are frequently treated as second-class citizens and there is no law against domestic violence.

Despite progress on better protecting women’s rights, activists say the government needs to do more to prosecute murderers in cases largely dismissed by police as private, family affairs.

“At least 943 women were killed in the name of honor, of which 93 were minors,” wrote the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan in its annual report.

Seven Christian and two Hindu women were among the victims, it said.

The Commission reported 791 “honor killings” in 2010.

  2. If the truth were known there were probably that number murdered in the West by the Moslems.

  3. Pakistan is the honor killing capital of the world. Women are being killed in the name of honor from the lowest classes to the ultra-rich and news of only a fraction of those killed make it to the media. It could happen only in Pakistan where a Chief Justice kills his own daughter in the name of honor without seeing any justice. Abdul Hameed Dogar the Chief Justice of Pakistan killed his daughter Farah Dogar because she married outside the family and now is enjoying full immunity under the patronage of his best friend the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari. Zardari is helping Dogar by imposing a total media ban on running the news. Its understandable from these brutes. But what puzzles me is that why is there a total silence in our media on the story. If the story is really a fabricated one, then why not run a disclaimer to shut-up the bloggers.
