University now much more basic than it used to be.

It seems that courses at British universities cover the basics like never before.

From The Mail:

The stereotypical student is a messy sort of beast, with a fondness for alcohol and daytime TV and an allergy to washing up.

But for all their foibles, most people would expect the teenaged scamps to have mastered the use of a toilet.

Not so at Swansea University, where campus chiefs have put up signs in a helpful attempt to provide students with toilet training.

University bosses said they put up instructions about how to use the toilets properly after some were found in a mess, sparking a series of complaints.

Explaining their decision, they blamed ‘cultural differences’ in the way the toilets are used by foreign students, some of whom are used to the ‘squat toilets’ common in parts of Asia and Europe.

  1. hilarious, yes the washrooms are disgusting, but when I was at Tsinghua University in Bejjing, the washrooms were disgusting and hilarious, although with all my complaints and gaufs of disgust, they did improve whilst I was there….
I have a photo of the sign in one of the womens washroom, with squatting toilets, totally hilarious, “Mang out after shit” is the caption, sending it to you on skype
But in the newer buildings, and apartments western style toilets were in fashion.

Public washrooms are a tossup here, depends where you go……

  2. Yes, good for Swansea University. I worked in the Middle East for over four years recently, and Arabs in general do not know how to use western facilities, which are alien to them, they prefer desert sand and hands to wipe things! My government building was provided with western toilet facilities, rather than the “hole-in-the-floor” thing, but the seats were constantly cracked and broken as men got up a squatted on them. There was also much water all over the place, often with unpleasant pieces of feces in it, as they would use the provided spray hoses to wash their arses with water and the left hand, and this stuff went all over the floor and walls… it was pretty revolting and dirty and smelly… I would often prefer to wait until I got home to my flat before doing my thing! No wonder Monty Python wrote and performed the song “Never shake hands with an Arab…” Good advice on his part. LOL.
