A helping of Halal

Many Brits would prefer their meat to be clearly marked as Halal if they were being served it in a restaurant, according to a recent poll. The issue drew headlines this week after it emerged that sporting venues across London regularly serve Halal products to customers without informing them, either for religious or cost reasons.

  • 73% of the British population think that restaurants and caterers should be required to label Halal meat if they serve it
  • 81% of the 60+ age group think that Halal food should be labelled compared to a smaller 57% of 18-24s who think labelling should be a requirement

Respondents to a separate poll are divided over how humane they consider Halal meat. ‘Consumers should be informed of what they are paying for and be provided with a choice,’ said one respondent, while the morality of Halal meat prompted another panellist to say ‘Halal is more compassionate than stunning ‘. Another, however, called it ‘a cruel practice’.

Halal meat is defined as coming from an animal that has been slaughtered by a swift cut to the animal’s neck allowing its blood to drain out, as opposed to initially stunning the animal using an electric bolt prior to slaughter: the conventional British method. Halal meat is primarily eaten by Muslims, as Islam proscribes the consumption of blood or pork and stipulates this method of slaughter. Some Muslims also believe that a prayer to Allah must be offered prior to slaughter.

Religious response

Religious sentiments were also stirred up by the story’s news coverage. One respondent argued against Halal meat by saying ‘This is a Christian country and Christian laws should apply,’ while another described it as ‘Islamification by the back door.’ Another respondent, however, took a more critical view of the media coverage and said ‘This is a scare story, designed to promote the new labelling initiative in a particularly nasty, xenophobic way.’

  1. The majority are treated with utter contempt! Better go hungry than eat the remains of animals slaughered in this savage manner!

  2. I want Halal meat banned, it’s too cruel to animals.

Plus it’s just another demonstration of Islamic supremacism to force their meat onto non-Muslims and take away our freedom to knowingly choose and for some religions, eating halal makes them break the tenets of their own faith.

  3. I just got this email:

Both the Real Canadian Superstore and Loblaws in the Kanata area have a dedicated, ten foot cooler section in their meat departments devoted to Halal meat that is promoted under a green-coloured Halal banner; and it doesn’t offer the shopper any insight into what Halal means or where it comes from.

Read on……and pass it on. While you’re at it – check out the origin of frozen fish and shrimp packaged under the Sea Breeze and some other attractive labels at your local grocery.

THIS IS COMING AND LOOK OUT FOR THIS INTRUSION IN U.S. And CANADIAN MARKETS… “Halal” meat…
Are you aware of this? Take a look and forward to your friends and family. Do Not buy this meat!

“Costco stocking their meat counters with “Halal” meat.”
I shopped for groceries at my local Wal-Mart. As usual, I bought a bag of frozen chicken breasts, but this time I checked to make sure the meat was not labeled “Halal.” Here’s why:

Halal is the Islamic term that basically means the meat is lawful to eat for a devout Muslim. What makes it lawful or acceptable is that the meat has been processed in a very specific way. Unlike kosher food, where the physical processing of the meat is the focus, for Islam it is the spiritual component that makes the meat lawful.

For lawful (halal) meat in Islam, the animal must be killed while the butcher faces Mecca , and either the butcher cries “Allah Akbar” or a tape plays the words over a loud speaker.

NEVER buy meat that is marked as “Halal.”
I am in the cattle business, and believe me when I tell you that Halal kill plants are CONSTANTLY being cited and shut down by the USDA for horrific infractions. Most of these plants are in Michigan and upstate New York .

One of the things that halal kill plants are notorious for is putting already-dead animals in the human consumption line. They will go pick up a dead cow off of a farm or ranch and instead of putting it in their rendering tank where the resulting “tankage” is worth pennies on the dollar as pet food or industrial products, they will shackle the dead animal on the normal kill line and process it as human food which is the highest-dollar product.

Since Islam teaches dishonesty (taqiyyah) and no regard for one’s neighbor, this kind of sickening behavior is standard.

Halal plants are also notorious for general citations for filth and uncleanliness. I have toured normal cattle slaughter plants, and guys, you could eat off of the floor. Everything is white and men walk around with water hoses and steam guns constantly keeping everything in a state of spotlessness.

Halal plants are filthy. A lot of Halal meat is also labeled as “organic.”

Again, don’t be fooled into thinking that “halal” means “better.” It isn’t. I would never, ever knowingly eat halal meat purely from a food safety perspective.
