  1. Great stuff, I saw something like this a while back on Discovery Channel. I think it was the same machine, they made a doll if I remember correctly.

  2. Makerbot was on Colbert. They make something similar using a different process that is affordable enough for home use. It can also do stenciling. They are based in brooklyn and a lot of local jewelry designers have been using a smaller version of the device to make jewelry.

Check out the thingverse and flikr group in the community section. People create and upload designs that anyone else can download and then create in their own makerbots.

So now if you needed something like a doorstop or a hook, you could make one yourself in a fraction of the time it would take to drive to and wander around in a Wallmart. And of course there would be savings in gas. The internet can deliver goods to your door but this is much much faster.

It’s not as technically advanced as this but you can own one right now.

    How bout something even better:

You go on the internet, download plans from others, print at home.

This looks awesome… lets hope the western world lasts long enough to make this widespread and portable.

Now if only it could print working guns…

  4. A different kind of 3d printer is 2BOT’s ModelMaker. It uses subtractive, rather than additive technology and uses much cheaper materials giving it the lowest overall cost of ownership by far. Check it out at http://www.2bot.com
