105,000 Christians martyred yearly, says European official

Every year 105,000 Christians are killed because of their faith.

This shocking figure was disclosed by Italian sociologist Massimo Introvigne, representative of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) on Combating Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians, at the “International Conference on Inter-religious dialogue between Christians, Jews and Muslims,” sponsored the Hungarian presidency of the European Union (EU) in Gödöllo, near Budapest.

“Every five minutes”, Introvigne said in his speech, “a Christian is killed for his faith.” The figure does not include the victims of civil wars, or wars between nations, but only the people put to death because they are Christians.

“If these figures are not cried out to the world, if this massacre is not stopped,” Introvigne continued; “if it is not recognized that the persecution against Christians is the first worldwide emergency with regard to religious discrimination and violence, dialogue between religions will only produce wonderful symposia but no concrete results.”

The conference on peaceful coexistence between religions was hosted by the Hungarian government as a highlight of its EU presidency of the European Union and saw among its participants Cardinal Péter Erdo of Budapest; the Custos of the Holy Land, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa; Archbishop Antonio Maria Vegliò, president of the Pontifical Council for Migrants; Maronite Archbishop of Beirut Paul Matar; Metropolitan Hilarion, “foreign minister” of the Russian Orthodox Church; the representative of the European Jewish Congress Gusztáv Zoltai, that of the Organization of Islamic Conference Ömür Orhun; and the general secretary of the Committee for Islamic-Christian dialogue in Lebanon, Chakib Hares Chehab.

The Egyptian diplomat Mahmoud Aly assured participants that his country is about to pass laws that will protect Christian minorities, by prosecuting crimes as hate speech and banning hostile gatherings of outside churches.

“But the danger is for many Christian communities in the Middle East to die out for emigration,” Cardinal Erdo said. “For all Christians will escape feeling threatened. And Europe should be preparing for a new wave of emigration, this time of Christians fleeing persecution.” Metropolitan Hilarion, for his part, recalled that “at least one million” of the Christians enduring persecution in the world are children.

  1. Just repeating this point:
“The figure does not include the victims of civil wars, or wars between nations, but only the people put to death because they are Christians.”

I would like to see a brake down of these figures though.

  2. Ya it is unbelievable. The numbers we have been getting from thereligionofpeace.com, who scour the international press daily, and the yearly state department reports indicates there are 8,000-10,000 victims of muslim violence every year. The highest yet being 14,000. And NOBODY believes even those numbers when I repeat them.

How is this man getting his information?

Furthermore as a Jew I could not help noticing:

““if it is not recognized that the persecution against Christians is the first worldwide emergency with regard to religious discrimination and violence”

I don’t believe from his statement alone that there are over 100,000 christians being killed every year. I believe there HAVE been that many killed in the last decade though.

I assert that the total numbers of non muslims targeted and murdered by muslims in the last decade amounts to an intentional Genocide.

That is why it is important to finally determine how many civilians have died from islamic aggression in the last decade. Unfortunately the most accurate sourse, Thereligionofpeace.com, does not count people who die from their wounds in the days and weeks after an attack.

  3. The 8,000-10,000 victims number I stated above means casualties, not assaults.

There needs to be an updated Tears of Jihad.

  4. I wonder if this figure includes the Non-denominational Christian groups which are said to be the fastest-growing groups in Communist countries, where they meet in secret, and in the Dar al Islam.

  5. Forgot to mention above that the Voice of Martyrs, which has worked directly with persecuted Christians since the 70s, also estimates that there’s one killed every 5 minutes, which comes out to 105,000. I really don’t see how they can know who’s being killed in every village, hamlet, and rural area throughout the world.

  6. I don’t disbelieve these figures it is somewhat consistent with the number dead in war vs those murdered during WWII with the population of the world knowing very little to nothing of the murders.

I am just saying I like to see the hot spots and what is being done in those areas.

  7. jjk999 and Paula:

Whether the numbers are accurate to within 1%, 5% or 20%, it still represents the truth and does not negate the intent of the report – that Christians are the most persecuted religion on the planet as far as numbers. Add antisemitism against the mere 14 million Jews worldwide and we begin to get an idea of the Islamic mandate of “first the Saturday people and then the Sunday people”.

Combine moon-god followers with totalitarians, aided by the Western fifth column, and the voluntary unchecked immigration of these murderers into the West, and our multicultural utopia is starting to look like the ingredients for the largest civil and (un)holy wars in the history of the world. It’s people of God against people of Satan – civilization against the Red-Green alliance.

  8. I guess my message was mixed. Since the sources mentioned may not include the many Non-denominational prayer groups of new Christians in Africa and China since they have no overarching church structure to keep track of them, and since I don’t see how any organization can know what’s happening in the many villages and hamlets and rural areas throughout the Dar al Islam, and since the figure may not include the deaths in the Communist countries but only in the Islamic countries, the official figure may actually be low.
Guess we’ll have to wait for a break down of the figure, … maybe it’s someplace on the Web?

  9. The low count for the “Saturday” people is because

    1. They are not as many of them as the Sunday people.

    2. Most if not all have fled or evicted from Muslim countries.

As the number of Christians in Islamic countries decline, the numbers will come down.

  10. I must admit that counting the numbers of Christians killed in remote regions of Africa or the ME, is fraught with difficulty. However Barnabus Fund and Compass Direct have access to these people, and the message is that persecution of Christians is endemic in Muslim countries. Even in an ostensibly Christian country such as Ethiopia, in regions where there is a Muslim majority, massacres happen quite frequently.

The difference in numbers is NOT of 1% to 20%. It is between 8-9 thousand PROVEN and a hundred thousand a year CLAIMED. Perhaps there has been a miscommunication or misstranslation. There has been no evidence provided that proves that THAT PARTICULAR level of genocide is happening. I read several news aggregators on the subject and that is 10x the number of yearly victims given.

HOWEVER I am not dismissing the idea, just the specific number. There is evidence to support that that total amount of christians may have been murdered in the past decade and I have begun to assert vigorously that the number of non muslims targeted and murderd in that past decade constitutes a planned and continuing genocide.

The very people who are claiming victim status are commiting a genocide.

Christians are definatly an at risk people in too much of the world and the catholic church has a duty to finally take it’s bejeweled finger out and actually do something beyond it’s as yet utterly innefectual complaining. A tiny fraction of its daily earnings could create and mantain a small mobile army of security personel or provide christians under threat with adequate self defence materials and education.

    Just sayin.
