Protester who burned pages of Koran at Ground Zero mosque site is sacked from his job

From the Daily Mail online:

A protester who burned pages of the Koran outside the site of the planned mosque near Ground Zero has been sacked from his job as a train conductor.

Derek Fenton, 39, of Bloomingdale, New Jersey, was photographed ripping up pages from the Muslim holy book and setting them alight on September 11.

He was removed from outside Park51, the site where the controversial mosque could be built, by police but was later released without charge.

But it now appears his former employer NJ Transit has taken more drastic action after confirming he had been dismissed.

A statement from the company said: ‘Mr Fenton’s public actions violated New Jersey Transit’s code of ethics.

‘NJ Transit concluded that Mr Fenton violated his trust as a state employee and there he was dismissed.’

Mr Fenton was allegedly inspired to carry out the act by Reverend Terry Jones, the Florida clergyman who sparked international protests when he threatened to stage a Koran burning day on the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

A police source told the New York Daily News: ‘He said “this is America” and he wanted to stand up for it, in a Tea Party kind of way.’

Another police source said he described himself as exercising his ‘right to protest’.

Mr Fenton was an assistant train-consist coordinator – which entails ensuring there are enough train cars positioned to be put into service.

New Jersey Transit did not give specifics behind why he was dismissed.

But if he was sacked because of his actions, he could be protected by his First Amendment rights, according to the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Chris Dunn, from the union, said: ‘The Supreme Court has recognised a constitutional right to burn the flag.

‘As reprehensible as it may be, burning the Koran would be protected as well.’

  1. Say Goodbye to free speech America.

America, ” Goodbye Free speech, its been nice knowing you”,

  2. Let’s face it – the leftist elite has elevated Islam above all else, even the Constitution. History books in school flatter totalitarian Islam above the genuine personal and compassionate religions, as if it were a religion. Amazingly, most people in the West still believe that Muslim terrorism “hijacks” Islam, naively ignorant that the terrorists are only following TRUE Islam.

At the same time, these self-haters slander Christianity by the very few Christians (eg murderers of an abortion doctor or two several years ago) who have made the media enacting their crimes (which is FALSE Christianity), and have the gall to call it an equivalence to the endemic systemic terrorist beliefs of Islam.

    Hypocrisy layered upon ignorance!

These days are marked with the fog of Islamist propaganda, coupled with the Arab financing which of course motivates many shakers and doers to dance to their Islamist masters.

  3. I saw the video of that guy burning pages from the Koran. What he was doing was making a clear political statement. He was expressing what he believed to be true. He was fighting back. He doesn’t like the Koran. If he lost his job with the city because of his actions, then that really is like NAZI Germany. I hope he sues them for millions!

  4. NJ Transit may claim he was sacked due to “public actions violated New Jersey Transit’s code of ethics” – but it more likely resulted from this entity not wanting bear the responsibility, once his employment was made public, to deal with the threat of Islamic retaliation expanding to the entire transit enterprise.

  5. To wtd: You are right. The West cowers before Islam. I doubt if we can win on their terms because we would have to get crazier than them – unlikely because they put no value on life. There is only one solution to this mess.

  6. In Great Brittain a boy has been visited by the police. They told him that he may never enter the USA during his whole life. His crime was: Telling b HUSSEIN o that he is a Prick. The truth may no longer be told. The truth is that Prick : b HUSSEIN o is building the Obama-Prick-Mosque on Ground Zero.

  7. Van Grungy… Tea Party may be growing, same as Geert Wilders and his PVV party, and lots of other Western minority parties, but it’s the communists who have been elected/appointed to power in the major institutions of governments, media, universities, etc. We are a not a minority but we are not in power either. The West no longer represents the majority of the people. Strange, because everyone does get to vote.

  8. Diana West addresses Fenton and sharia here.
    Quote==>:
“Islamic law is here and now. But it is enforced not by the fatwas of ayatollahs or mullahs of the Islamic umma, but by the arbitrary powers of psuedo-ayatollahs and faux-mullahs of the American state — in this case, the New Jersey Transit Authority. Elevating Islam’s law above our Constitution, these government officials have chosen to punish the “blasphemer,” in the process devaluing and, indeed, ceding our constutitional rights to speech and protest. All NJ Transit is missing is a banner saying: “9/11/01, Mission Accomplished. . . .You bet this train man with the wife and two kids at home looked nervous. It wasn’t America, land of the brave, he was living in anymore. It was somewhere else — in a state of sharia.”

at BigPeace, a commenter remarks in response to Diana West’s piece:
Quote==>:“People think Sharia Law implementation will come as a vote via the House or Senate, much like any other law. To the contrary, what you are seeing here as well as other situations of recent is exactly HOW Sharia will be implemented. It will be accepted in a slow and quiet manner through political correctness via state and national jurisdictions. With the help of mullah’s, imams, this administration and the lame stream media’s reminding American citizens and governmental bodies of our lack of tolerance and sensitivity.
THIS is invasion America. This cancer is amongst us all through this fundamentalism. Remain quiet and watch your freedoms disappear.
Are you really ready for this???? “

  9. This should not be. Would he be fired for burning a Bible? I doubt it.
Please get out and vote in November and hope that those we elect are courageous truth-tellers. Once they are elected they will be entitled to a security detail.

  10. I can’t stand this fat ass Chris. Looking at his flesh mass, this asshole is like a Muslim. A Muslim is slothful, sleep all day long and could withstand hard work. He/she is like a slothful pig-just like this fat ass Chris.

These Muslims are parasites. Same as Fat Ass Chris!

  11. Obviously the New Jersey Transit is in violation against the State and Federal Constitutions.

How could those who manned the New Jersey Transit perform their tasks responsibly if they don’t abide by the Highest Laws of the Land?

This shows that they are not fit to run the New Jersey Transit. It’s time to fire all these crooks and replace them with some loyal and honest New Jerseyers like Derek Fenton….

New Jersey State Constitution: Article One- Rights and Privileges:-

    4. There shall be no establishment of one religious sect in preference to another; no religious or racial test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust.

    6. Every person may freely speak, write and publish his sentiments on all subjects, being responsible for the abuse of that right. No law shall be passed to restrain or abridge the liberty of speech or of the press. In all prosecutions or indictments for libel, the truth may be given in evidence to the jury; and if it shall appear to the jury that the matter charged as libelous is true, and was published with good motives and for justifiable ends, the party shall be acquitted; and the jury shall have the right to determine the law and the fact.

    United States Constitution

    First Amendment
    Amendment I
