European Christians should have more children to stop the continent becoming ‘Islamised’, a senior Vatican official has suggested.

Father Piero Gheddo said the low birth rate of indigenous Europeans combined with a huge wave of Muslim migrants with large families would ‘sooner or later’ see Europe dominated by Islam.

Italian Father Gheddo is a highly respected figure from the Vatican’s Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, a society of missionaries.

He blamed Christians for failing to live up to their own beliefs and creating a ‘religious vacuum’ which was being filled by Islam.

‘The challenge must be taken seriously,’ he said.

‘Certainly from a demographic point of view, as it is clear to everyone that Italians are decreasing by 120,000 or 130,000 persons a year because of abortion and broken families – while among the more than 200,000 legal immigrants a year in Italy, more than half are Muslims and Muslim families, which have a much higher level of growth.’

He added: ‘If we consider ourselves a Christian country, we should return to the practice of Christian life, which would also solve the problem of empty cradles.’

  1. Nothing other then religion is going to turn around the falling birthrates in western civilizations.

Turning to atheism or away from religions will mean the end of western civilization.
This is obvious to me and I am not even sure there is a god or not.

  2. OxAO THe Passenger Pigeon was not hunted to extinction, it was hunted to the point where there was no longer a colony large enough for it to breed. Specifically, its not that there was not one viable male and female capable of getting a few eggs out there, its that the mating habit of this bird required huge numbers of them before it occurred to them to do it.

I see humans and breeding and religion that way. It has nothing to do with the facts of the existence or non-existence of any gods. But it seems that in an advancing expensive technological society, humans will not make the sacrifice to breed unless they are motivated by something as powerful as a real faith in the divine. Hell I had to think very carefully before I even got a dog.

  3. the RC church needs to allow a married clergy if they want to reawaken Christianity in Europe.

  4. Never mind Europe, I have friends who work in social services (welfare) and those practitioners of ‘The Religion Of Peace’ are having large families here in the US, and they are well schooled in getting every benefit that they can squeeze out of the despised Infidel.

  5. I am going to have 3 to 4 children when i reach my late 20’s and as of yet i have no real faith: Though i am constructing an abstract form of catholicism to balance that out.

You are right economically we have to think about having a child and that is the reason for the end of western civilization.
In the US under bush they had two tax kick backs I thought was a fantastic idea for parents that have children. If the natural course of things cannot create need for children we should do it artificially.

There are two motivating factors for increasing population.
    1. A practical need for more hands such as the farming days.
    2. Religion it is your spiritual belief that you should have more kids
    3. A combination of the two gives you a baby boom.
Economies require a slow steady increase in population without it the economy stagnates and everyone suffers. Societies economy isn’t a family need of more children thus the first premises will not allow for populations to grow. Religion is going the way of the dodo bird other then Islam and again populations do not grow.
Islam will over run and western civilization will end. Unless we either create an economic family need for children or good religions make a comeback.

BTW – the Passenger Pigeon died from a major frost that killed most then they didn’t have the numbers as you said to propagate.
