Another religious psycho curses ‘unbelievers’ except this time its a Jew

I’m sad to report that irrational religious authority in Israel can be as hate filled, venomous and counter peace when they are Jewish as they are when they are Muslim. Not as often certainly and not genocidaly so, but nonetheless this is repugnant.

From Israel Matzav:

Rabbi Yosef curses the ‘Palestinians’

Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, the Shas party’s spiritual leader who once advocated ‘land for peace,’ cursed ‘moderate‘ ‘Palestinian‘ President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen and the ‘Palestinians’ in his Saturday night Torah class.

Senior Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, in his weekly lecture on Saturday night, said that he hope Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas and the people he represents would disappear. “May Abu Mazen and all those evil people be utterly destroyed. May G-d strike them, and the evil Palestinians, with a plague,” he said.

:

Shas veteran Yehuda Avidan responded by saying that anyone who knows Yosef knows that there is no one who wants and seeks peace more than him. Avidan explained that the rabbi sees the Palestinians as Israel’s enemies but wants there to be peace.

Until now Yosef has steered clear of commenting on anything related to diplomatic negotiations. At the end of the 1980s Yosef ruled that the country should seek peace, even at the price of painful concessions, given the supremacy of the Jewish value of ‘pikuakh nefesh’ (saving of life).

I don’t believe that the Rabbi needs defending. I believe that he is being quite sensible.

  1. You are worse than normal antisemites, because you’re ostensibly Jewish!
He wasn’t cursing “Palestinians”, he was cursing anyo9ne who follows the terrorists Abbas, Mazen, et al! He SPECIFICALLY SAID SO, and YOU LIED about it! What, are you getting in your last bit of lahon hara before Rosh Hashanah? Not enough for you to make vidui for?? You should be ashamed of yourself!

  2. Susan,

I understand your emotional response. It’s easy for us as Jews to gather our wagons in a circle in defense of our own, however, I think that the target of his curse or, for that matter, the very nature of it, goes against what we at Vlad have been purporting to abhor since the inception of this site.

Curses, judgments from God and edicts proclaimed by faith cloud the judgments of rational thinking human beings. And Susan, it takes clarity of thought and a true understanding of the superiority of our systems of law and societal constructs to defeat the enemy of ignorance and intolerance that extremist religion often expounds.

While Islam has perfected the irrational in its’ extremist form it has by no means a monopoly on it. The Rabbi would probably best serve his religion by preaching a love of his God rather than a hatred of his enemies. This is what we expect of them.

Why don’t you leave use alone? We Europeans have no interest in your Jewish believes.

  4. A rabbi makes a single (that’s One) prayer and the hold world explodes. More to the point, why is there no headlines about the daily attacks and threats coming from the PA? Why is nobody asking Abbas why the PA Charter (which he affirmed this summer in Bethlehem) still carries a clause to wipe Israel off the map? Why is nobody outraged when babies sitting in cars are attacked? I could go on…I live in Jerusalem, and the rabbi was referring to a prayer that asks for protection from our enemies. He is a man of piece and although I do not know what was on his mind, he is an old man–give him a break for wishing to see his grandchildren live to adulthood…

  5. Nili,

Believe me, you are preaching to the choir here at Vlad when you point out the numerous atrocities of the PA and their ilk, but that is not the point we are trying to make. Nor are we trying to knock an “old man” for his concern for his country and people.

These are all ideals we support when presented in a rational, even if sometimes a rather vindictive manner. We are, after all, just human and subject to the occasional emotional outburst (more than a few these days) when it comes to our disgust and intolerance of the approach of the looming enemy of our treasured way of life.

Don’t forget, as we do not, that we in the Americas are just at the brink of this chasm while you in Israel are mired in the depths of it, and I understand your perspective is quite different and entirely more profound in many ways.

However, this Rabbi is a powerful and influential man, and I just cannot see the value of the two sides in this conflict calling down the wrath of their respective Gods upon one another. This dogmatic approach does nothing but polarize the issue on emotional grounds, and when you get really mad you see nothing but spots before your eyes. This battle must be fought with a clear head and unencumbered vision, and I just don’t see religious edicts doing the job.

Let the Imams preach their vitriol from their pulpits while we in turn will work towards educating our countries on the true nature of Islamization, jihad and the encroachment of sharia on our society, as well as the urgent need to support in every way possible the only true democracy in the Middle East. Not just because we are Jews (as in my case) or we abhor antisemitism, but rather because we know with complete certainty that our systems of law and society (which are rooted in Judeo/Christian values) are superior in every way for our modern world.

  6. Deuteronomy 21:18-21

“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.” 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death.”

I am an atheist, by the way.

  7. Warrants for the infliction of capital punishment, as opposed to private retribution or vengeance, are found in the Pentateuchal codes for the commission of any one of the following crimes: adultery (Lev. xx. 10; Deut. xxii. 22); bestiality (Ex. xxii. 18 [A. V. 19]; Lev. xx. 15); blasphemy (Lev. xxiv. 16); false evidence in capital cases (Deut. xix. 16-19); false prophecy (Deut. xiii. 6, xviii. 20); idolatry, actual or virtual (Lev. xx. 2; Deut. xiii. 7-19, xvii. 2-7); incestuous or unnatural connections (Lev. xviii. 22, xx. 11-14); insubordination to supreme authority (Deut. xvii. 12); kidnaping (Ex. xxi. 16; Deut. xxiv. 7); licentiousness of a priest’s daughter (Lev. xxi. 9); murder (Ex. xxi. 12; Lev. xxiv. 17; Num. xxxv. 16 et seq.); rape committed on a betrothed woman (Deut. xxii. 25); striking or cursing a parent, or otherwise rebelling against parental authority (Ex. xxi. 15, 17; Lev. xx. 9; Deut. xxi. 18-21); Sabbath-breaking (Ex. xxxi. 14, xxxv. 2; Num. xv. 32-36); witchcraft and augury (Ex. xxii. 17; Lev. xx. 27)

  8. The My Lai Massacre: was the mass murder conducted by a unit of the U.S. Army on March 16, 1968 of 347–504 unarmed citizens in South Vietnam, all of whom were civilians and a majority of whom were women, children (including babies) and elderly people.

Above paragraph is for the people who are not aware of it. It is in no way to show that america or americans are bad. all of us are same. we should always be self-critical otherwise we will do similar misdeeds again and again.

    talking of western values.

the guys who carried out this ghastly act went scot free. It was in America, not in a muslim country.

I dont like any religion. Because all of them are same. But you lot are full of hatred and that stops you thinking rationally.

  9. The ethnic solidarity of the Jews is fascinating. They do not condemn the obvious hate speech of the rabbi, but spreading the news. Sounds so Islamic…

Jews have been praying daily for the destruction of Christianity with the most unkind words:

    > Hatred of oppressors is a time-honoured Jewish practice. Since Rabban Gamliel of the second century, we curse the sectarians daily in our Amida prayer and ask God to destroy them. The sectarians are not members of various Jewish sects, but those whose sects parted with Judaism-you know whom the rabbis mean.

The fact is that in the second century Christians had no power and could therefore not oppress the Jews…

I tackled Amida in my blog and I got a lot of rabid criticism by Jewish people. I answered sending them to discuss the issue at the Jewish places that I linked as sources. They have not returned:

In Judaism, hate is a virtue. As you can read here. And this is not a psycho, it is a “moderate” rabbi writing in a Catholic site.

That is the reason why when I read the expresion “Judeo-Christian culture” I know they want to cheat me.
