(Adrian Wyld/Canadian Press)? The federal government has ordered a review of its affirmative action policy one day after a woman complained that she couldn’t apply for a public service position because she’s Caucasian.

Sara Landriault of Kemptville, Ont., told the media Wednesday that she applied online for an administrative assistant job with Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and was asked by the online application if she was white, aboriginal or a visible minority. When she answered white, she said a message informed her she did not meet the criteria and could no longer proceed.

Treasury Board President Stockwell Day said no Canadian should be barred from a federal job because of race or ethnicity.

“While we support diversity in the public service, we want to ensure that no Canadian is barred from opportunities in the public service based on race or ethnicity,” Day said in a statement.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, who was also involved in the decision to review the government’s hiring practices, which give priority to qualified applicants from minority groups, said everyone should be considered for federal jobs.

“We are in favour of appropriate diversity in the public service and reasonable efforts to achieve it, but we don’t think any Canadians should be excluded from applying within their government,” he told CBC News. “It’s OK to encourage people from different backgrounds to apply but in our judgment it goes too far to tell people that if they are not of a particular race or ethnicity they cannot apply [for a job] that is actually funded by their tax dollars.”

But he said the review wouldn’t affect any particular cases, including Landriault’s.

Landriault, who is the founder of the International Family Childcare Association and has a picture of herself with Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the association’s website, said that no one from the government has contacted her since she went public with her story.

The government’s latest figures show more women, aboriginals and visible minorities worked in the public service in 2009 than the year before. The number of people with disabilities stayed the same in the same periods.

As of March 2009, women made up 54.7 per cent of the federal workforce, aboriginals made up 4.5 per cent, people with disabilities made up 5.9 per cent and visible minorities made up 9.8 per cent.

  1. What’s not to like about these guys? A few days ago they take a step to make government less intrusive by shortening and de-mandatorizing the census form. Today, they declare that government jobs should go to white people too, sometimes. It amazes me how cool most Canadians are to Harper and the Conservatives, considering how well they’ve performed over the years.

  2. My name is Sentarr Anthony Mordechai , I am 8 years old Australian Aboriginal decent

This was a black Christmas in our house , It is the first time in my life that my father Moshe Mordechai was not home with us , He is in Villawood Immigration Detention and the Immigration won’t let him come home to be with us for Christmas , my father is very sick now and the government trying to send him back to the United States so I won’t see my father ever again ,

My father is not a bad person , he was helping lots of people and lots of aboriginal kids everywhere in Queensland to turn their lives around for the better … so why the Immigration want him to go ???

Please help me to have my father stay in Australia so I could have my father back …

AFTER biting a chunk out of the cheek of a repo man trying to impound his Toyota car emblazoned with advertisements for his Money on Wheels business, the alleged serial fraudster Moshe Mordechai, 50, was arrested in Kogarah on Tuesday.

Police found three false NSW driver’s licences and two New Zealand driver’s licences in different names, along with several credit and debit cards in the car.

Mordechai, who is alleged to have about 14 aliases, was refused bail when he appeared at Sutherland Court yesterday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and 26 counts of custody of false instrument.

Using the alias Jamal Almostafa, he is the owner of the money lending firm Money on Wheels which proclaims: “When all others say “No.” We say yes!” He is a bankrupt, having failed to pay an estimated $60,000 in stamp duty.

The Herald has learned that several car dealerships have been looking for a Jimmy Moustafa, another of his aliases, after he leased more than a dozen vehicles, including two Mercedes Benz, a Toyota LandCruiser, three HiAce vans and two buses but failed to make payments on any of them.

The injured repo man was treated at St George Hospital and later released.

Mordechai will be returned to court on June 1.

Or is Moshe Mordechai a really common name in your part of the outback?

This man will use any innocent person to get what he wants. He works on threat, intimidation and bribery. He is good at making stories and faking things to his advantage. Staff at the detention treat him with respect but in return he makes up stories, sends e-mails with false information to who ever he can. What a pathetic loser he is.

  5. this artical was posted by an EX- staff of Villawood that was trying to get money of my father in detention

  6. You are a sociopath aren’t you? You just keep shoveling it on even after you are busted. Well, I guess that is what it takes to be an effective con man.

  7. Sentarr, isn’t 8 a bit young to be playing the race card? My offspring is amazingly well-spoken for a 9yo, but even she wouldn’t put together sentences like that.
