Tablighi Jamaat, an Islamic group, will this week be evicted from the site where it has been running an illegal temporary mosque, and where it intended to build a new mega-Mosque, according to The Times.

Newham Council is said to be considering compulsory purchase of the land after Tablighi Jamaat failed to progress with its plans, which were strongly opposed by the public when they were announced in 2007.

The group, which has raised concerns with its strict interpretation of Islam, did not submit the required masterplan to the council before the final deadline earlier this month.

The local authority issued enforcement notices last week against Tablighi Jamaat, which has been operating a mosque on the site illegally for the last three years, since its temporary planning permission expired.
