The Age‘s elevated shot doesn’t reveal such fascinating detail. AAP merely describes people “carrying placards calling for an end to what was described as a ‘massacre’”. Meanwhile, in Paris:

Vandals hurled Molotov cocktails at a synagogue in a Paris suburb yesterday in the latest outbreak of anti-Semitic violence in France since the start of Israel’s Gaza offensive …

Home to Europe’s biggest Muslim and Jewish populations, France has recorded more than 55 anti-Semitic incidents since Israel launched its Gaza offensive last month, drawing appeals for calm from politicians and religious leaders. Three other synagogues have been firebombed in the past two weeks and vandals have sprayed anti-Israeli graffiti on at least two other Jewish places of worship.

Jews haven’t been so vilified since Islamists attacked the US on 9/11.

Vandals hurled Molotov cocktails at a synagogue in a Paris suburb yesterday in the latest outbreak of anti-Semitic violence in France since the start of Israel’s Gaza offensive.

The main entrance door to the synagogue at Villeneuve-St-Georges, southeast of Paris, was damaged by fire and a police source said it remained unclear whether one or several of the bombs were thrown.

The attacks come despite the government’s pledge there will be zero tolerance for anti-Semitic or anti-Muslim acts.

“Those who want to import violence between different communities into France will find the state on their tracks,” Nicolas Sarkozy, the French President, said on Wednesday at a New Year’s address to police in Orleans, central France.

His comments reflect the government’s concern to prevent anger over the conflict in Gaza spilling over into violence in France. “The level of tolerance will be zero tolerance,” Mr. Sarkozy said. “We will not let the consequences of this conflict be imported into France.”

Jewish organizations say there have been dozens of attacks against synagogues and other sites since Israel began its bombardment of Gaza on Dec. 27. Violence against Muslims has also been reported.

This week, police opened an investigation into the case of three young people of North African origin who said they were attacked by Israel supporters outside a school in the 16th district of Paris. The three said they were assaulted by activists of the radical Jewish Defence League who were distributing tracts.

  1. Seeing that picture of that child holding that sign, why wasn’t the parents arrested for child abuse???? She has absolutely NO idea what that sign means. It makes me physically sick to even think about it.

  2. Let’s expand on that question a little. Why are Islamic nations never held to account for child abuse on everything from female genital mutilation to honor murders? Why is Hamas not taken to account for its clear and stated policy of using children as shields from Israeli defense forces? Once we start asking logical and reasonable questions who knows where this could lead? this whole mess may fall apart and something worthwhile may form. I mean if we are gonna start asking questions…..

  3. They would have been if it was not a set up.

  4. Why did the police not arrest the parents? Do we no longer have laws against inciting racial hatred and violence? Or are Muslims not subject to our laws?

  5. Thanks to multiculturalism, Muslims seem exempt from western laws as they are seen to be cultural in nature, which of course they are. Still, the seemingly tired old question, “if people choose to move here then why do we not make them adapt to our ways or leave” remains as valid now as it always was. There is no doubt in anyones mind that should anyone from a western nation move to Saudi Arabia or any other Muslim nation we would be forced to adapt. It is also no surprise that very very few do while the line ups to immigrate to western nations made great by their cultures are long indeed.
In a word Yes. They are exempt. This has to change.
