The cat is out of the bag though and its had kittens all over the world. If you scroll down here, you can still see the movie Fitna in its entirety as I suspected this would happen and downloaded the movie with Firefox’s add on program, Download helper.
The good people at Liveleak.com should not be blamed. Here is the text they have replaced the original movie with:
“Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers.
This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.
Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture.
We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.”
I cant say I agree but I can say I understand and I do. It was courageous of them to host the film in the first place given what has happened to Theo Van Gogh, but less well known is what happened to many of the people involved with Salman Rushdie.
Japanese translator of The Satanic Verses, Hitoshi Igarashi, was stabbed to death and attempts are made on the life of the Italian translator and Norwegian publisher of the book by Rushdie.
I guess what I am saying is, the cost was too high for them to continue to host the movie and perhaps it will also become too high for me.
But really now, what are the costs of not hosting it?
