PARIS – A Paris prosecutor says three young Frenchmen detained last week were plotting an imminent bomb attack in France.

Prosecutor Francois Molins said Monday that one of the men had caught the attention of U.S. authorities by sending an email message to the White House. Molins didn’t elaborate and the U.S. Embassy in France had no immediate comment.

Molins said the three men were in part inspired by Mohamed Merah, a gunman espousing radical Islam who killed Jewish schoolchildren and French paratroopers in a shocking rampage in Toulouse a year ago.

  1. Migrants storm Morocco border fence into Spain

MADRID: A crowd of African migrants stormed a border fence and crossed illegally from Morocco into Spanish territory on Monday, leaving 12 people injured, authorities said.

The migrants surged over the fence into the Spanish enclave of Melilla on the northern coast of Morocco, the local Spanish government delegation said in a statement.

“A group of 150 sub-Saharans carried out a massive assault on the border fence of Melilla at about 6:00 am (0500 GMT) this morning in the Yasinen area near the city airport,” the statement said.

Despite the joint efforts of Moroccan forces and Spanish Civil Guards and police, “a large group of immigrants, about 50, managed to enter our city,” it added.

Ten of the Africans were treated for light injuries suffered during the attempt, as were two Spanish Civil Guards who were attacked as they tried to stop the migrants.

Melilla, a Spanish city of 76,000 people fenced off from Morocco, is a common destination for African migrants seeking to reach European soil.

Along with Ceuta, another Spanish enclave to the west, it forms one of Africa’s two land borders with the European Union, a haven for many Africans fleeing poverty.

Spanish media citing the delegation said that around 100 migrants had made an unsuccessful bid to storm the Melilla fence on Saturday morning.

Spain reinforced security at the metal border fence in August after a resurgence of crossing attempts, with hundreds of would-be immigrants waiting nearby for a chance to climb over.

Many migrants also try to cross to Spain by sea in flimsy boats and various groups have been found drowned in the attempt over recent years.

  2. UK – Three Muslim men arrested on suspicion of sexual assault at Islamic girls’ boarding school

Three men have been arrested over claims of sexual assault and false imprisonment at an Islamic school for girls.

A 40-year-old man from Bolton and a 30-year-old man from Blackburn have been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and false imprisonment, Lancashire Police said.

A 53-year-old man from Blackburn has been held on suspicion of false imprisonment.

All three men are being questioned in custody.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said: “We are still at the very early stages of the investigation and our aim at the moment is to respond to the concerns raised proportionately, in a measured way and with sensitivity.

“Searches at the school are being conducted by specialist female officers with sensitivity 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 and are being carried out as quickly as possible to ensure minimum impact.

“We are working closely with the school and the local authorities to establish the circumstances around exactly what has taken place and we have specialist officers supporting the victims.”

Police would not confirm whether the men arrested were members of teaching staff at the Ashton Road site.

In a statement on its website, Jamea al Kauthar said: “The school is aware of the allegations that have been made and at the present moment the school is fully co-operating with the police with their investigations into the matter.

“The school will publish a statement of any details it receives, once this has been received. We expect the matter to be cleared up soon.”

According to its website, the independent boarding school aims to educate Muslim girls over the age of 11 “in a safe, secure, happy and Islamic environment”. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Jamea Al Kauthar started with 60 girls in September 1996 and presently caters for 440 residential girls from all over the world on an admission policy of selection by ability, it says.

It continues: “We provide an opportunity to study the traditional sciences concurrently with secondary and further education.

“Jamea Al Kauthar also offers the ‘Tahfeez Ul Quraan’ programme (committing the whole quran to memory) and a two year abridged version of the Islamic Teaching programme in the English medium.

“There are currently 401 girls on roll, of whom around half are above compulsory school age. These older students attend Islamic theology courses each morning and other courses provided by Preston Sixth Form College in the afternoon.”

The website said the school is on the site of the former Royal Albert Hospital and comprises a boarding house, the school buildings and a madrassa where the Islamic curriculum is taught.
