This is called “Yarn Bombing”. Too bad the religion of peace couldn’t make this the only kind of bombing that they do. The world would be a much better place and they wouldn’t incur so much vilification. Sigh!
Yes I know, its a quirky little activity by people who have too much time and too much wool on their hands. I think its quite charming. But I couldn’t resist the joke.

When I first saw those pics, I thought they were treewraps to prevent tent caterpillars from infestation. Those things crawl up the trees in Spring and deleaf them, making huge nests that have to be burned out:

Or perhaps they were to protect trees from deer antlers. Of four lelander cypress trees I planted, the deer ruined and stunted two. I loathe deer.
