1. Syria conflict: Islamic State ‘kills 30 villagers’

Islamic State militants have killed at least 30 people, including children and women, in a government-held village in central Syria, a monitoring group says.

Some of the victims in Mabouja were burned to death or beheaded, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The state news agency, Sana, said at least eight people were killed, as soldiers repelled a terrorist attack.

2. Spain arrests couple, two boys for sending jihadis to Syria

A Moroccan couple and their two children were arrested on Tuesday morning in the eastern Catalonian city of Badalona by the Spanish Civil Guard for their alleged involvement in a network sending jihadis to Syria, Spain’s interior ministry said.

The apprehended children were brothers, both under 16 years of age, according to the ministry, and were about to leave for Syria, via Morocco and Turkey, Spanish news agency Efe reported.

Investigations revealed that the two children were scheduled to actually leave on Tuesday morning from Badalona to Morocco, and they had already contacted members of the network to facilitate their trip through Turkey.

5.Islamic State levels entire cemetery to avoid “worship of the dead”

A force for destruction and chaos and ruin. They will be bringing it upon the West as well, courtesy the weakness and fecklessness of our leaders. “ISIS Photos Show Jihadists Leveling Entire Cemetery,” by Frances Martel, Breitbart, March 31, 2015:

Islamic State jihadists have released photos on social media of their counterparts in Syria destroying a cemetery by hammering tombs to the ground. The group claims to object to tombs as wrongful worship of the dead, though much of the material was also taken away to use as construction materials.

5. US releases military aid to Egypt, cites national security

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Tuesday released military aid to Egypt that was suspended after the 2013 overthrow of the government, in an effort to boost Cairo’s ability to combat the extremist threat in the region.

The White House said Obama notified Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi in a phone call Tuesday that the U.S. would be sending 12 F-16 fighter jets, 20 missiles and up to 125 tank kits, while continuing to request $1.3 billion in military assistance for Egypt. The White House said Egypt will remain the second-largest recipient of U.S. foreign military financing worldwide.

6. America’s Academies for Jihad

After a local newspaper reported Mr. Bayly’s comments, he was forced to resign from the Islamic Center. That was the last I would hear of him—or so I thought.

Imagine my surprise when I learned recently that the man who threatened me with death for apostasy is being paid by the U.S. Justice Department to teach Islam in American jails.

Thank you Wrath of Khan, M., and many others. Please don’t forget to check the stump post comments which has a lot of important geopolitical news items and updates of critical stories.

A new one will be posted a few minutes after midnight for newer links and news items.

Who is Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari? (CNN, Apr 1, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/03/31/africa/nigeria-muhammadu-buhari/index.html

“Muhammadu Buhari has ruled Nigeria before, as one of a line of military strongmen who dominated the country between 1966 and 1999.

A military coup brought Buhari to power in late 1983 — closing a brief period of popular rule by Shehu Shagari — and another military coup ousted him from power in August 1985.

Buhari’s 20-month rule was known for what he described as a “war on indiscipline,” a tough regime which some say was marred by human rights abuses.

The 72-year-old retired major general’s experience as a military ruler has been viewed as a plus by some and a minus by others in present-day Nigeria, where the government has been locked in a deadly battle with the militant group Boko Haram…”
