Peace tunnels in Toronto and reasonable Jews in France: Links 1 for Feb. 24 – 2015

Before I get on with the first post of today’s news I would like to offer a prediction about today’s police press conference on the ‘peace tunnel’ that was discovered in Toronto yesterday.

It will be a good news bad news scenario. The bad news is that the conference will be full of the usual calming, reassuring nonsense completely bereft of content or value. The good news is it won’t be too long.

1. Does jihad influence the culture?

(Link to FB video of Egyptian kids playing at decapitation)

2. France’s Jewish and Muslim leaders fall out

(Usually its Jewish people who fall out of things after being pushed by muslims)

France’s Muslim leaders boycotted a dinner by the country’s most prominent Jewish group after its leader blamed young Muslims for anti-Semitic violence, adding that the National Front leader Marine Le Pen was “blameless” when it comes to anti-Semitism.

The dinner was marked by the absence of the rector of the Great Mosque of Paris, Dalil Boubakeur, outraged over comments by Jewish leader, Roger Cukierman, blaming young Muslims for anti-Semitic violence.

In an interview with French radio station Europe 1 earlier on Monday, Cukierman said: “All violence, and we must say this, all violent acts today are committed by young Muslims. Of course, that’s a small minority of the Muslim community and the Muslims are the first victims,” he added.

To further anger Muslim leaders he supported the use of the term “Islamo-fascism”, which was first uttered by Prime Minister Manuel Valls earlier this month.

3. Girlfriend of jihadi fighter faces jail for sending him £1,000 to fund his terrorist activities in Syria

Turay, 28, fled the UK in 2012 after converting to Islam. He is wanted by British police on attempted murder charges said to have been committed before he travelled to Syria.

During a two week trial, jurors heard how Khan, sent him £1,000 via Western Union transfer after telling him he looked ‘beautiful’ in a photograph taken with the Islamic State flag.

She received three other photographs of children, thought to be under 10, posing with weapons in Aleppo.

The 23-year-old was found guilty of two charges of funding terrorism. Anton Atkins, 31, was cleared of four charges of funding terrorism involving combat trousers and a total of £1,600.

5. Islamic State attacks Christian villages, captures dozens, burns churches

Hassaka, Syria (AINA) — Fighting broke out at 5 AM today between ISIS and Assyrian and Kurdish fighters in the Hasaka province in northeast Syria. ISIS attacked the Assyrian villages of Tel Goran, Tel Hurmiz, Tel Tamar, Tel Baloaa Tel Shamiran, Tel Riman, Tel Nasra, Tel Khareta, and Abu Tena. 7. French Jews turn to Le Pen after Muslim attacks

(At last! Reason percolates into the official Jews)

French Jews are ready to discard decades of distrust of the far right by voting for the National Front as a bulwark against radical Islam.

While at least 14 per cent of France’s Jewish community is expected to back the National Front in presidential elections in 2017, the political leader of France’s Jewish community publicly endorsed Marine Le Pen yesterday, insisting that her political leadership of the far-right party had been beyond reproach.

    • No. They don’t think of it that way, and they’d be offended if they heard you. Thank G-d, there are lots of people helping this time around.

Sharansky is there at least once a month and he doesn’t get that impression. I’m feeling kinda 1933 myself, but that’s still not 1938, and he doesn’t see it that way.
