1. Austrian Muslims accuse government of rights violations

Austria’s Muslim organizations said the government violated the rights of an estimated 600,000 Muslims in the country after officials sent a proposed law, dubbed the “Islamic Bill,” to parliament without first consulting the Muslim community.

“The government has sent the bill to parliament without considering our viewpoint,” Mouddar Khouja, founder of Austrian Muslims Initiative, said at a press conference Monday.

“The draft had to be examined during the Austrian Muslims Initiative meeting on Dec. 21.”

Khouja said Muslims are considered second class citizens in Austria and the government does not take into account the existing laws on religious freedoms and UN laws on freedom of religion and belief.

According to the bill, employing preachers from abroad would be prohibited. Imams would instead be trained at Austrian universities.

(This is a very interesting and ongoing issue. It should be tracked closely)

2. 300 Muslims from China have joined the Islamic State

Some 300 Chinese nationals are believed to have packed up and joined the jihad in Iraq and Syria on behalf of the Islamic State terror group, according to a report in China’s state-media.

Around 300 Chinese Uyghur nationals from the country’s Xinjiang province have linked up with the local Al Qaeda-affiliated East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), and have made their way to Syria through Turkey to link up with the Islamic State, China’s ruling Communist Party newspaper, the People’s Daily, reported. The report stated: “According to information from various sources, including security officers from Iraq’s Kurdish region, Syria and Lebanon, around 300 Chinese extremists are fighting with ISIS in Iraq and Syria.”

3. The Australian Govt feels that this Sunni/Shiia cleric “fell through the cracks”

Personally, I see this video from Oz. as proof that gun control has the opposite effect it intends.

4. Over 230 bodies found in mass grave in eastern Syria -monitoring group

BEIRUT, Dec 17 (Reuters) – More than 230 bodies of people believed to have been killed by Islamic State militants have been found in a mass grave in Syria’s eastern Deir al-Zor province, a group monitoring the country’s war said on Wednesday.

5. I have no words for this one.

6. Canada PM says Parliament attacker may not have been lone wolf

OTTAWA (Reuters) – The man who killed a Canadian soldier and then stormed the Parliament in October may not have been acting alone, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Wednesday.

Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a Canadian citizen who wanted to travel to Syria, was shot dead after a gunfight in the halls of Parliament.

“People say he was a lone wolf. It’s true he was a single attacker, but it is not necessarily the case that it was only one guy,” Harper said in an interview with the French-language TVA network.

Zehaf-Bibeau struck two days after Martin Rouleau, a Muslim convert, ran down two Canadian soldiers in Quebec, killing one. Rouleau was shot dead by police.

“It is possible there were other people around these men,” Harper said.

7. BBC: Nigerian soldiers given death penalty for mutiny

(Nigeria must see the fight against jihadis as an existential threat to take desertion that seriously. Perhaps its time we all did)

A Nigerian court martial has sentenced 54 soldiers to death for refusing to fight Boko Haram Islamist militants.

The soldiers, who were found guilty of mutiny, were accused of refusing to help recapture three towns that had been seized by Boko Haram in August.

A lawyer for the soldiers said the 54 would face a firing squad while five others were acquitted.

Troops have complained that they are not being given enough weapons and ammunition to fight Boko Haram.

The group has been waging an insurgency since 2009 and is seeking to create an Islamist state in north-eastern Nigeria.

More than 2,000 people have died in attacks blamed on Boko Haram so far this year and thousands more have been displaced by the fighting.

8. Kennesaw City Council votes to approve mosque move

Thank you Oz-Rita, M., Wrath of Khan, Don C. and many more who sent in materials today including Maria J. and more as well. I have been consumed with a project which is now done, so I can try and regain my more typically poor focus as opposed to the recent total scatter on the news portion of the site.

  1. 5/ Just one of those booths like in the Star Trek episode, where Americans who have been around too long walk in and are vaporized.

  2. With regards to the Nigerian mutiny, I notice that the BBC didn’t give any indication as to the religion of the soldiers in question. From what I’ve read in the past, Nigeria’s Hausa ethnic group (nearly 100% Muslim) have traditionally been vastly overrepresented in the country’s military and security apparatus. Maybe these men don’t want to fight their “brothers”.

  3. RE; # 3 IMHO this inbred mutant did not as it was stated ‘had fallen thruogh the cracks’ . The real reason was again Political Correctness (i.e. cultural Marxism), the political class and their shit scared liberal minions in the justice system were once again pandering and groveling to the Muslim community. Heaven forbid that they appear biased against ‘the followers of the teachings of the prophet’.

  4. If Rome wins 2024 Summer Olympics, Vatican could host competitions

Major sporting events could be held at the Vatican if Rome wins its bid to host the Summer Olympics in 2024.

Pope Francis, a keen soccer fan, is reported to be enthusiastic about the idea. He is expected to meet the head of Italy’s National Olympic Committee, Giovanni Malago, and other officials at the Vatican on Friday after a Mass to commemorate the committee’s 100th anniversary.

Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, former head of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, said he believed Francis would back plans to hold events such as archery in the Vatican gardens.

He told the Florence daily La Nazione that events could also be staged at the pope’s summer palace at Castel Gandolfo outside Rome.

“It seems like a good idea. I think the pope will approve,” Saraiva Martins said.

“The church has always defended sport because its values are not only Christian but universal. It teaches you how to put human values such as compromise and collaboration in practice overcoming division.”

He said he would like to see Olympic soccer matches played at the Vatican, “as it is a great passion of mine as well as the pope.”

  5. New Zealand – Scarves will fly in show of solidarity for Auckland’s Muslim community

Aucklanders will come together tomorrow in support of Muslim women, following the siege held in Sydney by an alleged Islamic extremist. Flying Scarves, encourages women to don a headscarf for the day, demonstrating that the actions of a few will not shape the perceptions of the many members of the Muslim community living in Auckland, as we take a stand of solidarity.

[…]With a focus on inclusiveness and diversity, Splice works to encourage kindness and acceptance, and works with people from a very wide range of demographics. “We want to reinforce that even though we all have different backgrounds, beliefs and practices, we do stand together on community issues,” says John. “We will not be separated by religion or politics. We will support each other and do so publically, encouraging others to do the same.”

To get involved in Flying Scarves and show your support for the Muslim community, head to Aotea Square between 8am – 10am or Freyberg Place from 10am onwards, on Friday 19th December.

There’ll be headscarves and tutorials available, and women are encouraged to upload photos of themselves wearing the headscarves, accompanied by the hashtag #Illridewithyou. Badges with the hashtag #Illridewithyou will be available, for men wanting to get involved.

  6. FRANCE – CALAIS –

Protesters against France’s ‘Wall of Shame’ and security operations against refugees fleeing to the UK took to the streets of Calais, Thursday, waving banners and chanting slogans in support of the local refugee population. Many of the undocumented migrants have been forced to live in squalid shanty towns near the port of Calais.

      • These fools and dupes (i.e. useful idiots) will be singing a different tune when the horde multiplies by a factor of 10 and their homes, vehicles, personal goods, and their lives are no longer the concern of the state.

    • Only Three years, I strongly doubt it. Their war with the west has been going on for 1400+ yrs. No one has the balls to put the hammer down on this vermin. The only message they comprehend is a good ass kicking firmly applied. As cruel and as harsh their methods are the Chinese and the Russians are clamping down.

by Shanifa Nasser PhD student in Islamic Studies at the University of Toronto and a fellow in Global Journalism at the Munk School of Global Affairs.

  9. Novel on France’s first Muslim gov stirs outcry

His new book has not even been released but Michel Houellebecq — one of France’s most provocative and widely translated writers — is already attracting comment with his latest novel”Submission” in which he imagines a France in 2022 under Muslim rule.

To be published on January 7,”Soumission” is the sixth novel by the author of”The Map and the Territory”, which won France’s top literary prize, the Prix Goncourt, in 2010.

Set amid political turmoil in 2022, the story begins with the far-right National Front (FN) about to take power from current president Francois Hollande.

But when a fictional Muslim Brotherhood party, supported by an alliance of three parties from the both the left and the right, beats FN leader Marine le Pen in a second round of voting, the way is cleared for the country’s first Muslim government led by President Mohammed Ben Abbes.

France finds itself shattered, as does the book’s narrator, the nihilistic Francois, a university professor with an unrestrained but joyless sex life.

Francois particularly enjoys walking around Paris’s Chinatown in the southeast of the capital where he lives.

“Nothing, not even a Muslim government, seems to be able to slow down their incessant activity,” he says, watching the Chinese there.

Francois hesitates to convert to Islam in order to keep his post.

In the meantime, however, his university is renamed the Paris-Sorbonne Islamic University and the secretaries take to wearing veils.
    ‘A reactionary redneck’

Always happy to be a polemicist, Houellebecq, 56, whose real name is Michel Thomas, in 2001 provoked outrage by stating in an interview that”the most stupid religion is, let’s face it, Islam”.

With a first print run of 150,000 copies, his latest work has already stirred plenty of comment.

“The future of France that Houellebecq describes is a nightmare made of integration, fanaticism and intolerance,” RAI, the Italian public television channel, said on its website.

An agricultural engineer by training, he published poems before his current life as a writer began in 1994 with his first novel”Extension du domaine de la lutte” which very quickly established himself as a cult novelist.

Then in 2010, he won the Goncourt, an ambition he had cherished for a decade.

  10. SAUDI ARABIA – MECCA Up to 6,000 working on Grand Mosque expansion

As many as 6,000 engineers and construction workers are on site at the Grand Mosque Expansion Project in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, Arab News reported.

The huge team is currently preparing the infrastructure on the eastern and western sides of the mosque, having already removed more than 100 properties in the central area. These have included the Ansar market, Awqaf building and the old children’s hospital, while work is underway to remove the King Abdulaziz Library and a number of major hotels.

Around 125,000 square metres of property space has been expropriated, with compensations reaching a total value of $6.66 billion (SAR25 billion), the report said.

Saudi Binladin Group, which is implementing the project, is preparing the eastern side of the mosque which, when complete, should be able to host more than 1.8 million worshipers.

The renovations at the site include the addition of a new building to the mosque that surrounds it and connects with it from the north, east and west. Other expansion plans include the establishment of a lower floor to house air conditioning and other equipment.

The project is now in its fourth phase, after the supervising committee finalised assigning properties for the expansion.
