3. Chinese city in restive Muslim region bans burqa in public

Beijing (CNN) — Legislators in the capital of China’s restive far-western Xinjiang province passed a law Wednesday to prohibit residents from wearing burqas in public, state media reported Thursday, highlighting the government’s continued campaign against religious extremism.

The new ban in Urumqi was first reported on ts.cn, a Xinjiang government-run website, and later widely published by other state media outlets.

The ordinance name suggests it targets outer garments covering someone’s full body including the face, which is called a burqa in some Islamic traditions.

Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population and a legal system based on Dutch civil law and Indonesian government regulations. But in a 2001 compromise with separatists, Aceh province in Sumatra island’s north was allowed to implement Sharia law.

Since then, religious justice has become increasingly strict — and, for some residents, uncomfortable, at the very least.

    Yemeni troops on Saturday shot dead five Al-Qaeda suspects disguised as women who fired at a soldier during a checkpoint inspection of their Saudi-bound bus, officials said.

    Another suspect was wounded along with the driver in the shooting at Harad, a town 15 kilometres from the Saudi border, the officials said, adding two of those killed were Saudis.

    “As one of the soldiers climbed on board the bus for an inspection, one of the suspects opened fire and wounded him, prompting shooting from other soldiers at the checkpoint,” said a government official who gave the casualty toll.

    All the six had been dressed in black robes and wore the niqab, a face-covering veil commonly worn by women in Yemen, the official in Harad told AFP.

    A suicide belt and arms were also found on board the bus, and the wounded suspect and driver were being questioned, said the security official.

    “The men are suspected of affiliation with Al-Qaeda and were heading north towards Yemen’s border with Saudi Arabia,” he told AFP.

    Security forces in Yemen rarely carry out inspections of vehicles carrying women in the conservative, deeply-tribal Muslim country.

    Cat Stevens is a mentally-ill, deluded prick. I still like some of his ‘pre-Islam’ songs so I’m not going to discredit his music. In fact if anything he is a prime example of how Islam can stifle talent and creativity.
    Instead, I will say this: If you ever see this bearded goat-fucker in the street give him a good kicking, …. and give him another kicking for good luck … and smack him in the face!

    18 months ago I went to Tower Hamlets to hear a group of black feminists talk about their opposition to islamic fascism. A “secular muslim activist” from Tower Hamlets was one of their guest speakers. He said that the British police have given control of muslim areas to the mosques: in return for “policing” muslim areas, the police had agreed to protect islam from any criticism.

    I was the only person out a room of 200 who was agog at this revelation. It suddenly made sense why in case of gang attack after gang attack by muslims in Tower Hamlets, that only ever 1 token member of such gangs was ever prosecuted. The Ummah obviously sees it as 1 muslim getting a few years of jail time, if it drives the non-dhimmi whites and the gays out of the muslim-dominated areas.

    • It has been alleged that here in the USA many Mosques have their own enforcement division or’ goon squad ‘to keep the faithful and pious in line. Which is why whenever there is a horrific attack or incident somewhere on this earth no one dare speak out, to the MSM they must toe the ‘party line’.

  13. USA – Orthodox Jews back scarf-wearing Muslim in Abercrombie & Fitch case

    Seven Orthodox Jewish groups, a Muslim civil rights organization and a public interest law firm supporting religious freedom filed briefs this week with the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a Muslim teenager who was denied a job at Abercrombie & Fitch because she wore a head scarf.

    Samantha Elauf was 17 when she was rejected by a Tulsa, Okla., branch of the clothing store.

    Employees acknowledged that she was turned down because her scarf didn’t meet the company’s “look policy” that requires its sales staff to be in keeping with its “classic East Coast collegiate style of clothing,” according to court filings.

    The company said its employees did not know she wore the hijab for religious reasons.

    Nathan Lewin, who filed a friend of the court brief for the Orthodox Jewish groups, said: “This is a common experience that a lot of other Sabbath observers or people wearing yarmulkes have had in terms of applying for a position and being turned down because it is just a nuisance to employers.”
