Bits of good news mixed in to the usual horror: Post 1 for Oct. 29 – 2014

1. I just heard on CFRA’s Lowell Green show, that the Canadian Army very quickly reminded the order not to wear the uniform of the military on Canadian streets. Apparently the soldiery was not at all pleased with the prospect of not wearing the uniform of the Canadian military while the enemy wears its uniform everywhere. Neither I suspect, were most Canadians.

2. Man beheads woman & jumps in front of train

A man beheaded a woman at her Long Island apartment Tuesday night and dragged her out into the street where he kicked her severed head about 20 feet before jumping in front of a train, cops and witnesses said. […] Nassau County Police did not identify the names of the deceased. According to WNBC, the woman is the man’s mother. Various news videos here.

4. Inside the sickening school for mini-jihadists: Pictures show children as young as five getting combat and weapons training at ISIS military camp

Sickening new images have emerged purporting to show young Syrian children being trained at a military camp run by Islamic State terrorists.

The photographs, understood to have been taken at a school near the jihadis’ de facto capital Raqqa, show children barely older than five being taught basic combat and survival skills, learning how to use enormous assault rifles, and being given lessons in extremist ideology.

The disturbing images of the school, said to be named Al-Sharea, were shared online by Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently – a small activist collective which secretly documents the shocking violence and oppression the terror group has brought to their home city.

6. Britain poised to send Apache helicopters to Iraq in battle against Isis: Move being considered because of fanatics’ ability to change tactics quickly

British armed forces could become deeper embroiled in the battle against the Islamic State after it was revealed last night that Apache helicopters could be deployed to Iraq.

Until now, only the Royal Air Force has been involved in air strikes against the terror group.

If Apaches are sent to Iraq – which are piloted by the Army Air Corps – it would mark the first British Army involvement in a conflict role in the country.

(If these forces need a place to train, I would suggest Tower Hamlets)

7. Close all Canadian mosques temporarily, ex-Quebec politician says

MONTREAL — The Quebec politician who once helped to draft an immigrant code of conduct says all Canadian mosques should be shut down for 90 days after jihadists killed two soldiers on home soil.

“These people all went through mosques,” former Herouxville, Que., councillor Andre Drouin told QMI Agency’s sister French television station, TVA. “So maybe there’s something wrong with mosques. You don’t have to be a genius to think that.”

As a town councillor in 2007, Drouin helped craft a controversial immigrant “code of conduct” in his town. The code banned religious face coverings, genital mutilation and death by stoning.

8. Libyan soldiers being trained in Britain behaved ‘like a pack’ to hunt down and sexually assault three women, court hears

Ibrahim Naji El Maarfi, 20, and Mohammed Abdalsalam, 27, rode stolen bicycles from their barracks to Cambridge where they touched the lone women sexually and tried to put their hands up their skirts.

Abdalsalam admitted two counts of sexual assault, one count of threatening behaviour towards a police officer and one count of theft.

  1. #6 I saw a retired SAS colonel on Sky News in the UK not so long ago. He was extremely surprised at the tried and tested western special forces tactics that ISIS were using, as far as he could determine. Interesting, no?

  2. About that beheading on Long Island in New York State:

Heavy.com: Derek & Patricia Ward: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Quote: “Police believe that Derek Ward underwent a psychotic episode due to the recent death of his grandfather. “

Newsday is reporting that cops think the son had a drug problem which may have been the source of tension within the family. While Farmingdale itself doesn’t appear to have a major drug problem, the neighboring down of Massapequa does. The drug wars in that town have been extensively covered by the local Patch. The two towns are approximately 40 miles from New York City.”

“According to police in Nassau County, Derek Ward used a knife to chop off his mother’s head, it was recovered inside her apartment. NBC New York’s Marc Santia tweeted that Derek had “a history of mental illness and criminal history.”

Given Derek’s drug riddled past, did he spend time in prison and revert?

  3. Oct 29 – IS Claims Uzbek Carried Out Suicide Bombing Against Iraqi Troops

The Islamic State (IS) group have claimed that an Uzbek militant killed tens of Iraqi security personnel in a suicide bombing north of Miqdadiyah in the Hamrin mountains in Iraq’s Diyala Province.

The claim comes amid conflicting reports in the Iraqi press that the Iraqi army and Shi’a militias have made gains against IS in the Miqdadiyah area.

According to the IS announcement, made via jihadi forums and the JustPasteIt website and dated October 29, the militant — referred to as Abu Zubair Al-Uzbeki — killed “more than ninety” pro-government forces. The announcement described the forces killed in the attack as “Safavid” and “Rafida” troops. “Safavid” is a term used by IS militants to refer to Iranian forces and the second term, a derogatory word meaning “those who refuse,” is a reference to Shi’a militias.

  4. US Envoy: To Defeat ISIS, We Must Highlight ‘Our Profound Respect’ for Islam

A global effort to counter claims by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) that it is acting in the name of Islam must include a counter-narrative that highlights “our profound respect” for the religion, the administration’s point man in the anti-ISIS coalition said this week.

Retired Marine Corps Gen. John Allen was speaking in Kuwait, where representatives of more than a dozen Islamic and Western met to discuss using public communications to combat ISIS

“As we seek to expose Da’esh’s true nature,” Allen told the gathering on Monday, “we must also tell a positive story, one that highlights our respect – our profound respect for Islam’s proud traditions, its rich history, and celebration of scholarship and family and community.”

“We must work with clerics and scholars and teachers and parents to tell the story of how we celebrate Islam, even as we show that Da’esh perverts it.”

The conference in Kuwait City brought together officials from leading Arab states, Turkey, France, Britain and the U.S. to discuss ways their governments are working to counter ISIS’ message.

  5. TURKEY – Erdogan unveils controversial new presidential palace

ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Wednesday unveiled a new presidential palace on the outskirts of Ankara, denounced by ecologists as an environmental blight and by the opposition as evidence of his autocratic tendencies.

The complex, located in the Bestepe (Five Hills) area, has become known as the Ak Saray — the White Palace.

An immense project — built at a reported cost of $350 million — has an area of 200,000 square meters, 1,000 rooms and architecture that is supposed to marry modernism and the traditions of the medieval Seljuk dynasty.
