At least 27 soldiers have been killed in an attack on an army checkpoint in Egypt’s North Sinai, state media has reported.

The attack on Friday afternoon hit an army checkpoint at Karm al-Qawadeis, southwest of Sheikh Zuweid.

Egyptian sources told Al Jazeera that a suicide car bomber detonated his explosives near the checkpoint’s magazine, causing it and an army vehicle to explode. Fighters then attacked the site with guns and a rocket-propelled grenade.

  1. It was predicted and the police were warned but when this was made public they denied that the warning was issued.

  2. 6. The Young Turk avoids the elephant in the room: Islam is not a shake-down religion like most of them in claiming they will make you well and attributing that to their divinity. It is not that. It is a take-down religion. A motherload of sick ideas. It will make you unwell, permanently- if you don’t believe. It will cite blasphemy is you disagree. Its relationship with unbelievers – is to envy them. It is a poisoning cult.
Sam Harris is not skilled at debating the side-steps and wriggle outs of an ‘ex-Muslim’ from liberal parenting where repentance and adherence is a submission away. Anyone infected with islam is a risk to others that gets in contact with them. Shariah is totally evil. Stick to the facts. And you can’t go wrong.

If this were a liberal debating Communism and Communists, discussing the dictators and puppets in Communist States, with a defector who knew the methods of subversion and treatment of unbelievers, this discussion would be a rout of the socialist.

Sam has not impressed – at being manipulated and guided in the discourse.

  3. 6/ It’s really difficult to see what in the world Sam Harris expected to come out of this interview. That Harris is eager to vindicate himself in the face of smears from Reza Aslan and his ilk is understandable although very disappointing. Are Aslan’s smears really so clever, so influential that they require such attention?

Then there is the nature of what passes for the interview itself. It is all too common to see interviewers of all stripes interrupt their guests, derailing rational discussion with random bursts of vituperative non sequitur. The effect, whether deliberate or not, is to overwhelm the guest with more and more questions to the point that the guest looses track of the conversational thread and appears at a loss to answer coherently.

Pile on top of that the interviewer’s repeated insistence that Christianity is the bloodiest religion in history and that Islam, when in control, leads to peace and high civilization, the agenda is made fully clear: To block honest historical discussion of Islam and the way it animates jihadi activity in the present day.
