Dad, I’m sorry to say that I can no longer defend your religion

Open letter ‘Now the evil of your faith is taking over the world, it’s your turn to resist those who will not spare their own brothers,” writes Ferdows Kazemi in an open letter to her father.

Dear Daddy,

Over the last two weeks I have been teaching the daughter of your brother Dutch. As you know, she has to become naturalized before she is finally reunited with her husband in the Netherlands. She’s a sweet girl and above all very eager to learn, like many girls in Iran. She can already say short sentences.

She asked our daughter, in Dutch: “Do you have a children’s book for me?” I was proud of her that she had only been here for two weeks and already could speak a complete and correct sentence. And even prouder that she asked for a book. Admittedly, a children’s book – just like I started 21 years ago – but a book.
favorite song

Last week I let her hear a song, my favorite Dutch song with the lyrics. She had to listen and fill in the missing words in the text. Stef Bos sang “Daddy … and you believe in God. So you’re going to heaven. And I believe in nothing. So we will never meet again after death, never again after death”.

It does not matter how often I hear this song. This part of the text still touches me. Your cousin did not notice that I had tears in my eyes. She was busy filling in the holes in the text.

Dear Daddy, you believe in God and his Prophet Mohammad and I believe in nothing. I had already lost touch with your God and his prophet by my 21st. So, we grew apart; we do not understand each other. We did this without losing each other. You still pray that God forgives me for my wickedness, because you do think I am a good person.

And I have always loved you, despite my dislike of your God, because I think you’re a good man. But Daddy before your God forgives me for my wickedness, you must forgive me that I do not need forgiveness. I’m sorry to say that I can no longer defend your religion. I can no longer downplay so many crimes that your fellow believers in the world commit. “Can you explain so many crimes committed by Westerners in the name of civilisation”, would be your answer. No dad, I have no explanation for that either. But you know that I have always fiercely opposed that. I have never downplayed it. Now the evil of your faith is taking over the world, it’s your turn to resist those who will not even spare their own brothers and sisters.

Accept responsibility and come up with Suras that reject the violence of your co-religionists against humanity.

If I close my eyes I see you sitting on the couch with your Koran lying on a small table in front of you. I see your lips moving, but I do not hear you. My mother forbad you years ago to be read aloud. She said mockingly and with some cynicism that you don’t have to share your good deeds with others. As long as I can remember, you read daily from the Koran. I assume that more than forty-five years of Quran study have provided you with sufficient knowledge that you can use against your brothers, the founders of the Islamic State.

Daddy, I know you and many like you do not approve of the excessive violence and blood spilling that Muslims cause throughout the world. But that is not enough. I really want to see proof from the book that you have read for decades and at least twice a day. The words that you must know by heart by now. I say that you are responsible. Accept that responsibility and come up with Suras that reject the violence of your co-religionists against humanity. And I will accept my responsibility as a wicked person, to continue to oppose the injustice that takes place on this side of the world.

Until I have your reassurance I must say that unfortunately your God is not the only God with, so it seems, a bloodthirsty character. And … about your niece dad, thank you for entrusting her to me as her teacher. She learns fast. She told me that she had been listening to the Stef Bos song time after time at home. She thought it was a wonderful text. Do not worry Dad, she’s a smart girl and she will choose the texts she likes. That’s allowed here, we have no religious regime. And I will help her pass the integration exam.

  1. Egypt: Qatar Ordered Islamists out Within 2 Months (abcnews, Sept 14, 2014)

” Egypt’s Interior Minister says authorities will hunt down exiled Muslim Brotherhood leaders with the help of Interpol, after Qatar ordered leaders there to leave despite initially hosting them following the ouster of Egypt’s Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

Mohammed Ibrahim said Sunday that Qatari authorities gave the Brotherhood leaders one month to leave. He also said they ordered reporters for the Doha-based Al-Jazeera Egypt channel to leave within two months.

A number of the group’s senior members and allied clerics said Saturday they will leave “to avoid embarrassing” Qatar. Their presence had severely strained Doha’s relations with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, all of which view the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

It was unclear where the expelled would head, though Ibrahim says perhaps Britain or Turkey.”

    • Excellent! The world should look to Mr. Sisi and Egypt as the new model for dealing with Muslim extremists. I feel sorry for anyone who decides to test their resolve.

What Mr. Sisi is trying to do is make it so the next generation of Egyptian kids don’t even think about becoming suicide bombers when they grow up, because they won’t be growing up with Salafist rantings coming at them from every direction.

Note to Mr. Sisi: Please address Middle Eastern TV networks that broadcast hate and madness all over the ME.
